I play with a Joesy Cue & love it. A freind of mine is just taking up pool & has to stay within her budget which is around 150.00 tops. We have been looking at Stealth,Viper, Outlaw, Smelke,Players,Action,& Cutec cues. Any advice here or should she save up more money? Thanks!

My two cents can be broken down like this: don't waste your time or money on any of the cues in bold. I haven't tried the new Cuetec series, but if it's good enough for SVB, it would be good enough for me.

Get something very cheap (under $75) but pretty if She thinks its pretty thats what matters. She's to new to the game to know a good hit from a bad one.

Wait and see if she stays with Pool for more than 6 months and she improves and likes the game.

If she gets the "bug" then spend a little more.
Then she like the rest of us can begin the "journey" of finding the right cue for her that plays well.

I'm on my 6th cue since I started.

Yea, it has nothing to do with the fact that he gets paid to play with one.

It is good to hear that Cuetec now makes cues without the fibergalss coating on the shaft.

To the original poster, I would say to also look at low end McDermotts or Joss's.

Low end cue

I know some people on here will disown me for even mentioning name, but what about the ebay Dale Perry cues. You can get one of these shipped, brand new and with the appropriate weight and shaft for under $150. For the money these are good cues and would allow the person to choose a look that fits them.

IMHO a persons first cue, that they picked out, that they paid for, can distill a love of pool that could stick with them for life. Worked for me.

Players Players Players

Players is the best brand under $100. They are the only ones who taper their shafts correctly. they are the only ones who drill their weight bolt holes properly. (Ever tried to change the weight on an Action or Viper cue? You need to bring in Lou Ferrigno to do it). And they are the only ones in the price range to offer a lifetime warranty, including shaft warpage. Your friend does not need a high performance LD shaft, she just needs a good solid well-made cue that she likes the looks of, and Players has hundreds to choose from.

How about this. $80 delivered. It's brand new imported.

Low end Players is pretty good. I speak from experience.

Also, a basic Sneaky Pete is an excellent place to start. Regardless, under $75 should be a goal IMO.
