Inexpensive Cue for Newer Player

Don't forget to put a better cue tip on it.
Vote for HXT series, and another one for the Cuetec with a 360 shaft.
The HXT comes standard with a good tip, Kamui Black S. And it has many different options for the looks and wraps, Irish linen, no wrap or a rubber wrap.
As of the Cuetec, you can get the really nice looking black one for about 200$. May have to change the tip though, so add some 30$. From what I have heard, it is a good cue, and I'd like one myself :smile:
I still have my first HXTE10 cue, and I still like it alot even after I hav changed to playing with a Mezz. Price considered, HXT is a really great cue. The dollars will do very little after that as the difference to higher and Mezz's and preds is not that big. Of course there is some, with build quality and deflection etc. but nothing that cant be adjusted for. And as of the Cuetec, I have never heard or read anything bad from the 360 model. I have not shot with one, but I sure hope I will someday. I'll buy one if I have to, thats how bad I want to try one out :embarrassed2:
IMO, the tip makes the biggest difference with cues. For an example, my brother has a 50€ Classic cue, with an older model PureX medium tip, and it hits great for the price. It had to be sanded smooth as the ferrule didnt quite match the shaft and some little finishing had to be made by hand, but it came out really good. It hits nice and is actually very well balanced. It feels light even at 19.5oz.

I like my G series McDermott quite well.
I just got it back from them, had the shaft replaced for the cost of the shipping. (Developed a slight warp, nothing major, just annoyed me. Had it five years prior to that happening.) Can't beat that kind of service.

I've said many times that Schmelke is tough to beat in the $200 range.
Made in USA for over 60 years, treat customers like gold, high quality product and can offer custom touches all done very fast.

I find this comment a little curious. I have a couple of G cores and they play very, very similar to my Predator Z2 shaft which is also 1.5mm smaller diameter. I can swap between my G cores and Predator with no adjustments in deflection. My Maple McDermott shafts, Schon Maple, and my Titlist conversion Maple shaft all have much more deflection than the G-cores. I could put them in order of least to most deflection but I dont want to make it sound like I am bad mouthing anyones shaft.
A Jerry Olivier Sneaky Pete for less than $200! If I didn't already have one, I would jump on this. Great cue, I used it to beat two opponents playing even up in this year's Ginky Memorial.

Last I looked the Cuetec R360 came with a tiger Everest tip. Not my absolute fav tip, but a pretty good one in my opinion. I probably would not change it out.

my first cue was a used players I bought off a buddy for $30.00. I didn't know for a long time that it wasn't a great cue. I guess, like anything else, if it hits true, and you learn its idiosyncrasies, it's a good cue for you. I read stories about the greats beating the brakes off of people using mop handles and golf clubs. says a lot for developing fundamentals, I suppose.
I find it to be just an opinion...a wrong one, but still just an opinion. I have played with the G-Core shaft and the Tiger XPro shaft for the past several years. I think both shafts, for me, play with very similar characteristics. Both are legitimate LD shafts. :thumbup:

Yep, grab a schmelke SP in a very nice Coco, for $200. American made, and very well made. Not really sure how you can beat that. If you want to upgrade to LD shaft later, OB shaft fits like a glove on Schmelkes.
You can get it cheaper than that. I had them deliver a Purple Heart full splice for $100 and a Cocobolo full splice for $140.
