INFO and APPRASIALS for my old Gina Cue

Correct but now he he paying ebay 13% on the offer he probably would have ended with here at no fee- so maybe giving up $500 or so on the sale And ebay protects buyers now way more than sellers so good luck if some scammer buys it and then starts with phony claims and the tremendous hassle that e bay now inflicts on sellers.
Here you can go Pay Pal F&F or Zelle and be done.
The knock on eBay with the huge chunk they take out of you, I get. I'm not as seasoned as you and others here that have and/or regularly move high priced cues around on these boards. In the early eBay days pre-paypal, if I ever sold anything I would only accept USPS money orders (most expensive thing I ever sold was a guitar amp for a couple hundred.) Does PayPal f&f offer any protection to either side from your experience? I was under the impression that they only step in if you do g&s (which gives them their percentage.)

I've read the occasional bad transaction over in the sale sub forum as well as here when frustrations warrant venting. While trying to stay young at heart, long gone are the days when a handshake and a man's word meant something (especially when it comes to internet dealings.) I'm no saint, but I never try to misrepresent myself in business dealings. While it's not the norm to be bamboozled, what ways do you and others do to keep yourself as safe as you can w/o going the consignment route short of waiting for payments to clear and asking/checking references over on OBM?

Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've had much better dealings on forums than I have on eBay. Just look at the forum members history, both selling and participating, and demeanor. Be smart about your purchases, if it looks too good to be true it probably is. It's easier to scam on eBay where people have nothing to lose. On forums long term members have built a reputation and want to keep it. Just my experience YMMV.

Try consulting with Scott from Proficient Billiards. He's a guy with 100% reputation. 1st class cue repair expert, maker.

Ebay offers far more eyeballs. What I don't like is that they ask for even more money to "promote" your item, which means actually show it to people who are looking for it. It's OK to give up 20% if it sells for 50% more.

Family and Friends payments are treated as gifts. You are saying that the money is a gift and not connected to any sale. If it is a sale, you are cheating PayPal out of their 3% and you have no protection. I never ask for F&F, but sometimes people send it that way, anyhow.

There is no pay pal F&F on e bay. The problem with e bay - especially the past few years, is that they have favored buyer issues over sellers in almost all cases now. Seller protection was always the big benefit with e bay in the early years- now e bay pressures sellers into unfair returns and refunds-

What is worse is that buyers can return vastly inferior merchandise than they received from you and they will get a full refund- as long as the buyer has a return shipping receipt that an item was delivered back to you - they get a full refund- and how will you prove to e bay that you did not get your Gina Cue back in the mail, but a box stuffed with paper - you can't - the package is not x rayed by the shipping company.

Now a buyer on bay with a history of a few small buying transactions disappears with a $3,000 cue to sell somewhere else - and he also disappears off e bay's radar.

I have converted to selling cues here only, and also to F&F payments or Zelle, mostly bc I know that whatever I sell is quality and is delivered in the utmost protective packaged state - the deal is done and that is it.

Good Luck with your e bay sale- many of them work out just fine, but I just don't like the chances any more - besides the 13/14 % payments to e bay.

Of course not. I had meant in the setting of selling privately through the forums and non-bay locales.
In those settings it is up to you to post that you accept F&F payments only- some buyers will shy away if they do not know you well as a trusted seller- but it is always your option to provide other means to convince them of your honesty as a seller- like having phone conversations with them, showing them your proven sales record on other internet sites, or if close enough, selling to them in person in a public place.

your advocating friends and family in the same post as talking about your word being good.

anyone selling doing f&f should get taken as they are stealing from pay pal. and a thief is a thief whether you think or not in you own mind.

i have stock in the company so you are also stealing from me.

Sorry but I do not look at accepting F&F payments as cheating Pay Pal but rather as a way to protect myself - an honest seller - from buyers who scam sellers on the back end with totally unreasonable demands and expectations in the post transaction process.

The proliferation of AI in customer service by companies like Pay PAL and the shipping companies has changed the selling game entirely IMO and my experience.
Just try defending yourself against fraud and unreasonableness when you are now facing climbing the wall of AI customer support - no sir, this world we have now says that small independent online sellers who are honest need to get the deal done and be able to walk away free of the nightmare service issues.
The world has changed and not for the better - self protection rules today in so many aspects - now more than ever- that is how I see it for those who want to deal fair and square.

Not advocating for F&F, quite the opposite. Was merely putting it out there to ask others that do. Maybe if I had said so, you wouldn't have taken it the other way. The risk is what would scare me from ever trying to buy/sell very valuable items privately. I would only go through someone whose business it to do such, if consignment so be it.

sorry mike but if you sell with f&f and then dont send paypal their real end of the transaction you basically cheated them out of it.

i grant you they over favor the buyer at your expense but if you use the service then it is dishonest to cheat them out of their commissions even if you think its unfair. and if you will cheat paypal where does your honesty start and stop.

i assume you are honest but who can feel sure to make a deal when you base who or how you pay based by your decisions.

All I can say is that the adoption of AI customer support process is leading many small business people to NOT want to go through traditional payment company routes to secure buyer payments.
Until you experience how these companies are avoiding their true customer service responsibilities and now hiding behind the AI curtain - you may understand who is really getting cheated here.
MY 3% fee is supposed to provide me with support from a company like Pay Pal - when all I get is AI BS to make me just go away unsatisfied - Their fee is no longer justified IMO-
So many service industries are now using AI to keep the honest consumer in limbo when we have problems involving their services - you counteract this anyway possible to keep yourself whole.

I see ff and g&s on paypal differently
Paypal doesnt get cheated as they collect their fee either way.
Its the buyer or seller that pays it .
If the fees are different i dont know
Where the “cheating “ comes in is if you are selling a cue and you do that routinely you are making “income” which will not get reported if you are paid as ff….whether thats ok is a a personal ethics decision
Everyone here is aware of the protection to the buyer g&s gives them

If you're looking for a $2,000+ custom cue and don't know about AZ do you really know anything about cues
