Initials on Cue

I have read some comments about putting your pers initials on your cue sticks. I have had my initials engraved on some of my cues. What is the up and or downside to doing this?
 
Other that other people not wanting your initials on the cue if ever you decide to sell it? Hmm.. At least you can I.D. it when it gets stolen.
 
Thought about doing this when I replaced my broken buttcap, but it would make your cue almost worthless if you decided to sell. Unless of course your name is Cesar Morales or something.
 
I had my initials inlayed into my cue. Maple initials into Gabon Ebony. I did this KNOWING that I could never sell the cue, because of it.....but that was kinda the point.

This particular cue was the first custom I ever had made to my exact specs....and waited more than a year to get it. I figured, since I had been bitten by the cue bug, that I would buy a sell quite a few cues....but the FIRST one would stay with me forever.

Of the 70+ cues I've bought and sold over the last two years....that one cue is the ONLY one that has stayed in my case.
 
Only one of my cues has my name on it...under a clear plastic ring, printed on foil. ;)
 
I have a pretty standard cue (a simple McDermott) and I noticed about 3 other people with the same cue. I didn't want someone to pick mine up and walk away with it by accident, so I took it apart and colored around the pin on the butt and on the shaft with a sharpie so if there is ever a question its easily identifiable and the resale value isn't really affected.
 
I like the idea of having a way to I.D. the cue, but in my opinion, it should be out of sight.

I have a Viking and a Josswest with my initials engraved in them. Those cues I would never sell because of a pers attachment. I guess if I was to buy another one I would not engrave it if it was an investment. This make sense both ways. Identify what is yours and don't on cues you buy for investment. Good stuff, thanks. But if I was to be lucky enough to purchase a Black Boar I would be inclined to put my initials on it just to keep me from thinking about selling it. They are stunning. Thanks again.
