Lets say you go to a known cue maker. Middle of the raod. Not high end or anything. THis may be a stupid question but have an argument to settle. Lets say you are going to have this guy inlay 8 small ivory diamonds, 8 large and 4 medium. Probably .5,1.0 and 1.5 inch inlays. 20 total. Anyone think these would cost 2500 to do? Just curious. Sound way to high for me but I dont know.

Way too high.

I agree this sounds quite high.
Ask this question in the Ask The Cuemaker section. The opinions of laymen sometimes don't take intangibles into account very well. I'm sure you'll get informative & respectful answers given the way you've phrased the question.
I hope you're able to get what you want.

Wow....um if your getting a whole cue with the inlays!!! Seriously though all makers charge different prices....say if one charged 20.00 per inlay your in 400.00. Cost of ivory is not as high as people make it out to be....probably a lot of ivory in your inlays however. I would say with a lot of ivory inlays and some nice figured exotic woods....a cue including this wouldn't be out of the realm of your price quoted...that again is if the WHOLE cue with inlays cost that much.

Ok. THat is what I thought. Found a cue that some was trying to sell and they said it was way more expensive than I thought it was. He told me what the break down was and it was as follows:
4 pointer - 1500
8 lg diamonds - 1200
8 small diamonds - 800
4 medium diamonds - 500
3 ivory rings. 2 in butt sleeve and 1 above the wrap - 1950
Got a 10% discount since he bought 2 cues.

I thought a crock but wanted to check. Just trying to shaft someone. I thought it was really weird that 20 basic inlays cost more than the cue itself. Hell for that matter, could have bought 4 cues(almost) that were plain 4 point veneer cues from the maker for the price of this 1. Thanks.

Thats one of the problems with some of these guys. They have been building cues for like a minute and a half with their Porper lathe and think they are in the same market as say Dennis Searing. Mean time, on the used market you could not get $400.00 for that $2500.00 no name cue. You will have thrown away your money.

now if its a gus or a bushka 8 larg ivory diamonds would add a value of about 5000.00 to a standard 4 point
