Hello.cuemakers.
I'm planning on having a genuine black shark skin wrap installed on cue that I have in the works. I had a shark skin wrapped handle, on an old japanese katana that I used to have, and absolutely loved the feel. How does this material work in comparison to actual leather, any general installation issues, cutting difficulties, seaming problems, etc. I would appreciate any feedback from any cuemakers who have actually installed one of these. Thank you in advance for any help/advice.

Just checking, and not trying to be a smart ass, but most of the katanas I've seen had STINGRAY with flat silk cord over top.

I have some shark on various things, boots, holster, wallet etc, but I always wondered if it would be too "deep" a pattern for a cue wrap.

I also really like stingray, and carry a stingray wallet daily. That stuff is TOUGH! Same question though, would it work for a cue wrap?

Looking forward to following this thread.

I haven't ever seen a shark skin wrap, but I do know that Jack Justis has made cases out of it. If you want to know about it's working characteristics, you might give him a call.

I love the feel of Shark Skin on the Justis case that I took delivery for a friend. I was thinking of putting one on a cue as well.

i believe ron thomas told me there is no way stingray can be on a cue bc the seam would be terrible. it is incredibly hard to cut. like cutting a suit of armor

There is a secret to cutting Stingray, maybe only known here in Jackson. McDaniel put a Stingray on several cues, and if Bill did it you know it was right, so it can be done.

Sam Engles developed the cutting method I am talking about, just ask anyone who is fortunate enough to own a real Stingray case, not one with Stingray inlays, and they will tell you he knew what he was doing.

Shark is great for wraps, here is a photo of an Ebony CA$H cue with a Sharkskin wrap, slick and textured, really cool.

Thank you for the input on the stingray. The wrap on my katana was def. sharkskin though. Never seen a stingray wrap on a cue, but I agree that it would be interesting.

Anymore info on the sharkwrap install would be appreciated, thanks to all who've chimed in so far.
