Hi there,

I am buying a very fancy Sugartree Bocote Sneaky pete. The thing is that I would prefer linen wrap in terms of feel, but in wrapless the cue looks gorgeous.

I am asking this now because I am in Vietnam and the chance to do a linen wrap is Zero if the cue arrives.

I can play either, wrap or wrapless, maybe this is just a way to have peace in mind because I am very excited with this cue and think of it whenever my mind gets free "is there a way to make it more perfect?" lol.

so plz advice me on this, below are some pics from the seller himself, Mr. David Gross aka 12squared.

thank you very much for your input.

If the cue is in the US, send it to Proficient Billiards for wrap installation, they will send the cue to you after its done.

If the cue is already in Vietnam, send it to the Q Shop in Singapore, I believe they do wrap installation.

That's awful nice looking wood to be covering it with a wrap. Personally, I wouldn't pay the premium for a Sugartree SP and then cover up beautiful wood with a wrap. I think you'd degrade the value.

If you plan on never selling the cue and strongly prefer a wrap for playability to your preference, have at it I guess. Otherwise, I wouldn't do it. Fact is, for me, I wouldn't do it either way as I love beautiful wood.

Alan, thank you for your input. I was just answering whether I should. and if I should. I think I must ask a delicate cuemaker to do it, as it involves cutting a wrap groove on the butt, not just rolling the wrap on it.

Thank you, I am not so strongly prefer linen wrap to wrapless, especially not on this cue, it's like 50-50 to me (60-40 for the wrap for the feel, but 35-65 for the wrapless for the look)

and honestly I plan on never selling the cue. once I receive it, I am pretty sure it will not appear in the For sale section.

wrap section

My 2 cents worth is if you are going to have the cue changed , then send it to Mr sly..................

My .02 don't put a wrap on that will expose the wood to the drastic change in enviroments between Vietnam, and the U.S. butt is less likely to move or warp if left alone. Not saying it will because it could either way. I just wouldn't chance it either way. Besides that's a pretty georgeous looki g piece of wood you will be covering up.

Thank you, Mike. it will most likely stay as is.

Leave it alone bro!

don't mess with it.
Thank you, guys. I now feel guilty just thinking of doing a wrap on it

Hey Cuong

Finally huh.:grin-square:
If it were me, I would just leave it as it is.
You wont be able to see much of the beauty of the bacote if you put a wrap on it. Just my opinion.

Edit : your wrap groove would be lower than the average cues too.

Thanks, Hui.

this is the one I told you about, really cannot wait no more. there will be no wrap to it.

I just talked to Phuc Long couples of days ago, the Hanoi Open will be on September and will be even bigger this year. come and bring your cues.

Cuong.

Yeah I heard about it. I thought it was November, maybe I made a mistake lol.
Not sure if I will attend this year though but will know 1-2months before.

Hope you dont install a wrap on that beauty:grin:

No, Hui, will be no wrap.

Hope you will come, I have more to show off this year and you have even many more lol

please play it first and THEN think you may change it to a wrap, you don't know you will like the hit or balance, so try it out first that's my opinion:wink:
Erics Cues are Monsters but not for everybody:p

Thanks for your input, Ralf. I think it will stay wrapless :)

I have tried 3 ST's, own one and see another one almost everyday. I love the way they all hit. I also asked some AzB members about the ST sneakies and I don't see why I won't love it, play-wise. And I have followed this cue of Dave for half a year.

played with Eric's cues, then I played with others also (lower or same price range), and I have figured out I must get a ST sneaky. I have done enough homework lol.
Did you buy the cue for looks or for the way it plays?

If you bought it for the way it plays, and after playing with it, still feel like you'd like the feel better with a wrap.....put a wrap on it.

Regardless of how good a cue looks, you still have to play with it. If it will make the cue feel better to set it on fire for a brief period.....then so be it, whatever makes the cue feel better to YOU.
Thank you sir.

Firstly, I must admit I buy cues for the way it looks, then I search for people's opinion on playability. and when I have the cue on my hands, if it is not suitable with my game, I adapt my game to suit it.

It sounds weird but that's the way I do, I always think I have to make the most out of the cues. I bought my first custom cue last May (switched to Sugartree from Mezz), and had to change my whole game for it, and now it is like an extension of my arm.

of course I will do whatever I want with it, but the chance to install a nice wrap with top notch quality is now, and I want to make sure I will not regret it. Now I feel it is guilty to even think about putting a wrap on it.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I wouldn't alter that cue in a million years. If it is not perfect for what you are looking for don't buy it. If you put a linen wrap on the cue you will alter the way in which it was originally designed to play in terms of weight etc, although minimal it will change the balance. Also that is a beautiful piece of Bocote why on earth would you want to cover it up Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - It would be sacrilege! I have a lovely Tad with perfect balance and a plain linen wrap and fiber ferrule. I prefer leather wraps and ivory ferrules. I look at it sometimes and say to myself should I change or shouldn't I? then I have to slap myself in the face and say come off it you do that you will regret it. Wrapless or linen cues play excellent they just take a little getting used to if you are not familiar with them it is not going to add anything to your game apart from what is in your head :-D but that statement opens up a can of worms in itself :)
