I Got Lucky

I am having Simonis 860 installed next week on my 9ft Kangaroo table. The table gets used every night in my bar. The bar is air conditioned. What should I be looking for when watching the installer to make sure it is installed and plays properly?

Thanks in advance

Table

Who is installing the cloth....?
I've never worked on a kangaroo table.. I've heard of the knockoff table but ever worked on one, I'll assume it's wood framed slate.

Have enough money set aside to pay to have it done again in the event you don't first check out the installers work from other jobs done at least 6 months previously.

Efren's cousin Bong is installing the cloth. I know he knows how to redo a table and I know he makes nice cues but I always like to be knowledgeable on the subject matter the few times I call in someone else to do work for me.

How do I know if the cloth is stretched to the proper tension(not sure if that's the correct terminology)?

Watch their installation video. It will provide all the information you need.

Thank you for your valuable contribution to the OP's question. Common man you are better than that.

A simple suggestion to delay the install and inspect some of the installers previous work would have done the same as above without the needless snark.

Make sure they stretch long rail to long rail first (as per simonis install video) and then lastly short rail to short rail. Mine got done the other way round and I got some nice stretch shadows. I subsequently bought the install video and will be doing any future recovers myself. Not alot of table setup / simonis install experts in my area - Regional NSW, Australia :-(

Have you seen the work on pool tables in Arizona? Why do you think I took Zach under my wing for about 3 months....to train him to be the best in Arizona that's why, so I stand behind my statement!!!! Zach IS the best table mechanic in Arizona and I'd put his work up against anyone's in the area.

Your answer makes little sense, I'm not sure who Zach is and why you are bringing him up? I'm sure if you worked with him he is well qualified to help the op.

If so, why not just give the OP the contact info for Zach. Zing away, I've said my piece.

OP, let us know how it goes.

Never mind, the bottom line is the best advice to the OP is to check out the past work of whom ever he decides to hire by at least 6 months back, that'll show the real work that was performed.

Where I am in the Philippines there are no tables with Simonis cloth. All the bars use a cheaper cloth. We always used Star Billiards from Manila but now they won't install any cloth on a table that is not sold by them. I had 4 tables here in Subic for them to redo and was willing to pay for travel, food and overnight boarding like we always did. There are NO real installers here so I called Efren's cousin since I know him and have seen his work and played with his custom cues. He is very capable but he has not seen the Simonis videos.

I am sure he will do a fine job I just like to be a knowledgeable customer when I am paying for professional services.

Thanks mamics for the one tip.

Nope......he's not better than that at all.

The Simonis DVDS show the correct way to install any cloth.

Simonis DVD for installing Simons cloth - agree - not a better investment could be made if one wants to install Simonis cloth oneself without previous experience.

Not sure the "stretch factor" for Simonis would be the same for all cloths though would it ?

...Just sayin'...

Cheers.

I showed how to determine the stretch index for any make of cloth as well as any size table in the DVDs.

Start Billiards

contact Star Billiards in Quezon City and have your table clothed by their guys. if you did ot get the cloth from them, just get a deal with one of their guys, then just pay him personally. you might want to have the rails changed as well if it's an old kangaroo table.

Star billiards was set to come up here like they always do and redo 4 tables PLUS install one of their tables and then told us they won't install cloth we purchased from them if its not going on a Star Billiards table.

We had Efren's cousin send us 4 guys and the table is done. I am LOVING the Simonis 860.
