The parent game of maybe all cue sports is played on what many would call a snooker table. It is English Billiards and is played with two cue balls and a red ball. You get two to ten points per successful shot. Sometimes it is played to a total and sometimes matches are timed, so you have a total of 90 minutes or such.

Here is the end of a recent match in the Austrian Open in which there is two minutes left and the player at the table trails by over a thousand points. His opponent, Dave Causier, had just finished a run (break) of over 700 points.

sick. carom games where nursing is possible can have insanely long innings

Tried to learn the scoring but either the scoreboard is out of sync (doubt it) or the scorekeeper anticipates most of the shots.
How many points for
carom
sinking the CB
pocketing a ball

carom 2 but called a "cannon"
potting the red 3
going "in off" the red 3 and it spots
going "in off" the other cue ball 2
potting the other cue ball 2 and it stays off the table -- usually a bad idea

There are fouls but they are rare and only a few points.

There are scoring restrictions, so for example you can only do 75 cannons (caroms) without some other kind of scoring so you might expect some straight rail action but no one does that. Also, you can only make the red 15 times in a row without something else happening, and you can't make more than two reds off its spot ("black" spot) or it goes to the center spot.
