Intentional Foul

Hi Guys,


Last night i was playing pool ($40.76) perframe of 8 ball. I was in good touch and was winning most of the games, but around the 4th game onwards the guy started racking loose (is there an alternative break when the rack is loose) because the balls looked to racked pretty good but for some reason it just did not spilt. My second question is can intentional foul be played, it was my break and i potted 6 balls and missed the 7th ball and did not leave my opponent a shot so he intentionally plays my ball and sticks it to the black and rail which does not leave me with a shot even though i have cue ball in hand.......... is this fair.....

rack your own when there is money on the table!

Intentional foul is a smart and good move.
 
Time to get Joe Tucker's racking DVD's

The intentional foul was legal. The loose racks are reason to demand a rerack but the best thing to do about poor racks is to get and study Joe Tucker's racking DVD's. Usually loose racks can be exploited which works to your advantage. When your opponent finds that you take advantage of their slug racks it will usually break them of such habits in a hurry.

Like others said, you can intentionally foul, but be aware of a counter-move that the opponent might play. In the diagram is a shot that my teammate in league was faced with. He has the solids. I suggested two moves. Either he could just barely touch the five and leave the CB on the foot rail or he could try and roll the 8 into the 10 ball. He elected to roll the 8 into the 10 ball. The opponent, with a smart move, hit the 13 into the 5, but hit it too hard leaving it in front of the side pocket. Even though my cousin was left with a simple one rail kick, he missed it. I wouldn't had matter much anyway, he wouldn't had a shot anyway. Point is, yes you can intentionally foul, but beaware of what the opponent can do with ball in hand.

Thanks for the info, yes i guess i should rack from now on... but i was really upset with the fouls... but i guess thats legal as well... Thanks guys for the input.

It sure doesn't feel "right" when it happens to you, but the intentional foul is a tactical assett which should be used when necessary. I would do it just to do it, but if it's the best play then I won't hesitate.
