interesting auction (SW)

who the frick is "job"!

if the seller can sell it, good for him. i don't see where the unique value is. fancy prongs, but sh*t, i have an authenticated dpk/sw from the 80's with razor blade windows and ivory spear inlays too. if this one is worth $60,000, then mine is worth $30,000(which i highly doubt). i think mine(used) is worth 6k to 8k in japan, so i will say this one can't be more than $15,000. i REALLY don't know how sw's price at because i don't follow them.

as a dealer, what would you guesstimate the price at? design-wise, i like this one more than some others i've seen.

if i compare what this $60,000 cue brings to the table vs others like gina or schick, this SW falls short.

Im sure I will feel stupid when I hear the answer, but what is the importance of JOB? Other than it spells job, something of which I dont have LOL.

hmmmm,,,,,,,,maybe it's "Jesus Of Bethlehem", in which case the cue is terribly terribly underpriced

umm....... wow. Good looking cue, but not 2004 E55 AMG wow....

I just sent him a message asking if he would take $35K for it.... If he responds "yes", my reply will be "I BET YOU WOULD!!!". If the response is "no", will be "you damn well better!!!!"

hehe

JOB is Jim Blaylock, proprieter of JOB Billiards in Nashville, TN. (some people think JOB's is Joe Blackburn, but no)

Jim is a true Collector and has many cues worth over 25K. I can see Jim having Jerry make a special cue for him, and have no doubt that it could be worth more than any other SW. But Jerry's untimely death shortly after finishing this cue doesn't necessarily increase the value, no more so percentage-wise than any other Jerry-era SW.

Personally, I would think the Seller would be fortunate to get $30K for the cue here in the US, though there's 2 Japanese Collectors who may go $50K or more for it.

I think the JOB logo would decrease the value, and the last cue Mr. Franklin made increases the value. How much is the vig on 60 grand if someone bids on e-bay?

yep that is right .The owner of JOB billiards in Tenn. That q is in the bule book 1 .photo 59..

This is my thought. Having any cue "personalized" takes away from the value. Of course there are rare circumstances like when a cuemaker makes a cue for the likes of Mizerak or Mosconi, certain notables of the game.

Aside from that, I have to say that this is probably the ugliest Southwest I've ever seen. I'm sure it holds a certain value for being Jerry's last but, for $66,000 or whatever the price is, I'd rather put a downpayment on a house, spend $2k-4k on another Franklin, and be happy with my investment.

Then again, if you can afford $60 grand for a cue, you probaly own a big ass house already!

Strictly my opinion here...

Having this cue personalized wouldn't detract any value...if anything it would be an add on and better for long term provenance. Jim Blaylock is a well-known name in pool and has been for many, many years. It's really surprising to me everyone that has asked in this thread...guess a bunch of young 'ens ???

If it is indeed the last JF South West, then it'll probably sell real high, but from what I know Laurie has been quite secretive/elusive about which was "the last". $60k is probably a stretch, though. Hell, who knows ?? It never ceases to amaze me what some cues end up bringing.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all had crystal balls?

There is a cue, Balabushka, in Choo Choo. The finest I've ever seen, but it has the original owners name in the butt. Just personally, I would buy one without the inlayed provenance if I had the cheese.

You are absolutely right. That Bushka you mention is one of the very finest known fancy examples. In theory, I agree with you about not wanting someone else's name on my cue, but it all depends on the angle a collector is coming from.

I think the last cue shipped prior to Jerry's death was#376.

i heard a rumor that shorty had already made an auction ending deal on the cue with the seller!
word is he got it for 50k!

Except the seller naturally assumed it was 50K Dollars, not 50,000 pesos :D

The price on that cue would be too high at $15,000. Only someone with $60,000 he didn't need, liked pool cues, and was looking for a place to spend some money would pay that price. Anyone care to guess how many buyers there are in that price range? As the prices go up the number of potential buyers goes down and that price is through the roof for a SW cue IMO.

LOL....that's right. With his latest exchanges, that little guy's proven himself to be just another creep that wants something for nothing IMO.

On another note....how in the world did you get my wife's picture for your avatar ???? :D
