interesting auction (SW)

This is my thought. Having any cue "personalized" takes away from the value. Of course there are rare circumstances like when a cuemaker makes a cue for the likes of Mizerak or Mosconi, certain notables of the game.

Aside from that, I have to say that this is probably the ugliest Southwest I've ever seen. I'm sure it holds a certain value for being Jerry's last but, for $66,000 or whatever the price is, I'd rather put a downpayment on a house, spend $2k-4k on another Franklin, and be happy with my investment.

Then again, if you can afford $60 grand for a cue, you probaly own a big ass house already!

and
JOB should keep his cue and be happy with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Sorry but this cue or any cue.....

His response was that he already has an offer of $40k....

I think that is nutz!!!
Psych consult is definitely in order, unless the new owner has the initials JOB or just really needs a job

I think the JOB logo would decrease the value, and the last cue Mr. Franklin made increases the value. How much is the vig on 60 grand if someone bids on e-bay?

I have a 9-point Franklin, (also 1996) B-eye/pau ferro into cocobolo forearm. It doesn't have the fancy inlays, but that's why I have it discounted to only $55,900.. (delivered via overnight!!) fantastic deal!!! offer only valid 24 hours.. act now!!.

nice cue but that case interests me more. How the frick do you skin a turtle? Is there even that much skin on a Sea Turtle? -ph

Your right! I bet Sam Engles would know. I got one of his Elephant ear cases,he must have had a time getting that beast to give up his ear.

Here is what Sam says ,
The Sea Turtle is an endangered species, thus protected by the Feds. No Sea Turtle case for you he says. He would also be very careful when selling an item that contains contributions from an animal that is protected like that. FYI

Here is a quote from the National Wildlife Service website:

"All 6 species of the Sea Turtle occuring in the U.S. are protected under the Endangered Species Act of 1973."

So Sam was right..... no Sea Turtle case for me.

If you check out the Fellini Brochure on my site, you'll see they mention leather embossed with sea turtle print. Leatherback sea turtles have been protected since the early 1970's, so it's unlikely Fellini "bootlegged" this one.

There are 3 things that make it nicely collectible, the date, the personalization, and the fact it's featured in the Blue Book. The cues I've sold that were featured in the Blue Book, Billiards Encyclopedia, or a popular magazine were pretty easy sales.

However, I too think it's considerably overpriced, even though I don't know much about these higher end collectibles. If it were worth that much, I don't think it would be on E-Bay.

Chris,
Your site had the answer all along! I have really enjoyed my visits there, and the thing with your visitors questions about their cue is just as entertaining as Antiques Roadshow.

Personally delivered for that price…

If this cue sells for the $60,000 asking price, Dick Abbott needs to get that Rambow that was a gift from Willie Mosconi to Jackie Gleason back and ask $80,000 instead of the 40,000 that he had it posted for months back! If that cue didn't have provenance and collectibility written all over it, none have. IMO

EBAY HAD A 10 CENT FIXED PRICE LISTING SALE. I think they are just doing "Show and tell"

NOPE - this is not a "Fixed Priced Listing". The Seller paid full insertion fees to showcase that cue.

Hey - thanks!

The visitors are really giving me a lot of information and it's a blast to hear their stories and see pictures of their old cues. These guys are hard core! The guy in Jersey with the 1st catalog Model #1 who was looking for a shaft re-make for his 40 year old cue just wrote me and told me he had his old shaft cleaned and fixed and figured it was good for another 20 years!

From these original owners I can get dates, places, store names, even order information. I'm learning a ton!

I wish I had more time to devote. I bet Rambow owners would be a great group to get together.

I think the last cue shipped prior to Jerry's death was#376.
I tried to buy this cue about 3 years ago... He wasn't interested in selling it... The price has risen from what I thought it was worth then.. I spoke to Laurie Franklin about the cue at that time. This cue is in fact the last delivered cue by Jerry.. It's only worth what someone will pay...

This reminds me of the story of 2 fools,

The first fool offered $40K,

Then the second fool refused the offer....

Damn, where are these guys when I am selling a cue, and I get every dollar pinching nit in the world?
