Interesting cue on eBay - Rare Frank Coster

Doesn't look like any I've seen, but that doesn't mean much. The ones I've seen had lots of stuff inlaid {like little ivory gears and such}. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I do not know if it is really or not, however, I do know that all of Franks cue were not fancy, and the cue has a certain geometric air to the design. I hope some of the more knowledgeable poster chime in on this one, I am certain that with some of the people on this site someone knows for sure,

The pictures are noot good enough to tell if it might be a Coster.

Good close-ups of the flat faced joint with a brass insert would help.

The fanciest one I ever saw was Frank's personal cue. That man had talent!! His cues looked like a Meucci, same kind of joint, ferrule, shaft taper. I hit one of his early cues that a guy I knew from PA had. He was a person friend of Frank. Never got to hit one of the fancier ones, though.
 
manwon,,,i've seen a few fancy costers. the first to catch my eye was one that hopkins was playing with long ago. you probably already know that his death made his cues more valuable or you wouldn't be posting this.

speaking personally and with my own criteria, i do not like this cue as a collectable. the reason is simple,,,,i think it's ugly. never underestimate the importance of looks if you having ANY intention of resale. i think you will find that bad looks make the purchase all the more difficul to unload.

I have to agree with your assessment in most cases, however, I also think that the fact that something is in such short supply like Franks cues are, also can cause collector interest. While this cue would certainly not be on the top of most collectors lists, due to what you have said, if its real it should be documented as such, and this is my major interest. I have been keeping tabs on collector cues for many years, due the lack of accurate information on this subject. Sometimes I think I have too much time on my hands:D, however I love this subject and I can never get enough information or get bored looking for it.;)

I also think that Franks cues are often over looked due to the number made. However he was one of the great cue makers, equal in my opinion to any that came before him. His designs and his craftsmanship were fantastic for the time that they were made, and still are today. Then when you combine the fact that so little is published publicly about him, in my opinion he has never received the credit he deserves.

Oh and by the way, I have also seen photo's of Allen Hopkins cue, and man that was some cue.

I just came across this thread..
The Ebay Coster is my cue.. May not be the prettiest cue, but it is a very early Coster..
Also Is sold .....

Franks personal cue is a great looking cue also...
I had the privledge of purchasing the cue from his son a few years ago.. I went to his house and into Franks shop where it still was hanging in the rack.. Now it has a great home with a friend of mine..

I was going to picture a couple of Costers I presently have in the Gallery soon. But, this thread seems like a good 1st place to show them..
