Interesting Mike Massey article

Thanks for sharing the article, Henho! It was a good read. :)

How about the strength within Mike Massey to overcome the occupational hazards which were prevalent back in the '70s era?! It was a time when altering one's state of conscious at will was acceptable, much like catching a buzz on a beer. It was the Woodstock era. Bill Clinton didn't inhale, but George W. Bush admitted he partied in college.

I've got quite a pool library now, consisting of older pool magazines, books, taped interviews, and photographs. Mike Massey's name appears in just about every single one of "On the Snap," a magazine from the late '80s, early '90s.

Looking at the MPBA Tour, the equivalent of today's UPA, the Top 10 rankings in 1990 were: Nick Varner, Allen Hopkins, Earl Strickland, Johnny Archer, Kim Davenport, Mike Lebron, Buddy Hall, Bobby Hunter, Mike Sigel, and David Howard. At that time, Mike Massey ranked 17th. Pretty tough field (IMO), especially 9-ball, the way it was played in those days, when a perfectly executed safety was talent.

For a man who followed his dreams and made it big time, Mike Massey is truly an American success story, and he's still on a roll (IMO). ;)

Henho, that was great... I recently had the chance to work with Mike Massey. A benefit for MDA was held in N.Kentucky where Mike put on an exibition to raise money for the cause. He totaly donated himself and his time for the benefit of the needy. We(Billiards Direct/Olhausen Billiard Mfg.) donated a 8' Santa Ana to be given away as a door prize. We also set up a 9' Champ Pro for him to play on. Felice from Simonis donated us a cut of 860 for the occasion. Again thanks for the post... The article is one of the best I've seen on Mike. He's a class act...

"THE Mike Massey"

Pool players in Salt Lake City, Utah are always taken aback when they walk into the Ritz Bowling Alley and see Mike Massey playing straight pool, one pocket or practicing his trick shots! They are even more taken aback when they talk to Mike and realize that he is a warm and caring human being that doesn't act like anything other than just another guy that loves to play pool.
However - it is hard to forget that he's not just another guy after he finishes talking on his cell and mentions that it was Ron Woods (guitarist for the Rolling Stones) and they are going to hook up and play snooker when they are both overseas!
