I thought it'd be cool to post pics from interesting gambling matches, new and old..

No need to knock anyone's action in this thread, simply post and enjoy.

This is a game at DCC. One guy was spotting the other something like the 7-out, and the recipient of the spot had to shoot every shot with the bridge.. :grin-square:

(Link changed to poolinaction.com link directly to photo link, at request of Steve Booth, the photographer. Note the link doesn't work. C'est la vie. Please remove all quotes of the pic link in the thread below. God forbid anyone see the photos from DCC. That would be a travesty, after the Southern Classic being cancelled due to low numbers.)

I dont think that would be a spot, damn that sounds like a handicap!

UGH!

I know a guy that in order to book a 9 ball money game, would allow his opponent to shoot the balls in any order, as long as the 9 was last.

Awww come on... Anyone else have any interesting photos? They can be of anyone...

LOL Buck. I invented that spot in the early 90's. You can play just about anyone in the world with that spot! Never got anyone to give it up.

What side of the bet are you referring to. Giving the 7 or shooting with the bridge? In other words if I say give me the 7 and I will shoot every shot with the bridge are you saying you have the lock or me?

He was referring to the 14.1 9-ball spot

Thanks, it has been a long day, my mind is not functioning. The bridge spot is a trick I learned from Pat Fleming. I play just a bit under my normal game using the bridge and as the game progresses I get better and better. The thing is, you have to put up the money because once the guy see how you play with the bridge he quits immediately.

So Russ, did you clip this photo from my website and upload it to Flickr or was that someone else? If so, shame on you. I like to share my photos but I am not so fond of people taking them and then uploading them somewhere else.

The thing is, you don't need to steal my photos like that -- if you like a pic you can just post a link to it right where it sits in my gallery of pics from 2012 DCC action

I am so glad you stopped by!

It would be an interesting discussion to have, if you'd like. I know one of the players involved in this match... He didn't sign a model waiver or anything..

I'm not sure it is exactly acting in good faith to sell his likeness without his permission. To post it freely is fine, from what I read online about this before posting the pic, but not sure about selling. It's definitely a conversation we can have, if you'd like..

And no, I couldn't post it directly.. The pics are "for sale" on your site, and you have code that prevents players from saving the pictures of themselves, or linking to them... :-) Perhaps you, as owner of the site have permissions that we as the players being photographed, do not? :-)

I will take the pic down if you'd like. I thought the permission of one of the players actually risking their cash in this particular match would be enough, but I will respect your wishes if you want me to take it down.

On the contrary, anyone can easily post photos directly from my pool photography website. Just click on the image and copy the url. Also, I always enable "Share" in my online galleries so it is easy to get a link to whatever image size you want to post.

However, you are right that I have "right click & save" disabled to reduce image theft, but that is not to prevent players from down loading -- on the contrary any player that has ever asked for an image file has got it from me. The right click protection is only there to make it a little tougher for people to snatch photos without telling me. Because once they do that, I have no control -- and often no knowledge whatsoever -- with what they do with them. In fact, there are robo programs and image harvesting website (in China maybe) that routinely harvest mass quantities of images, including many of my own. That is what I am trying to protect against, not players.

Regarding permission, I have permission to photograph at the events I photograph, but I also always respect requests from players/people who let me know they don't want to be photographed and I don't even ask why. However, I can tell you that is a very small number. Most players seem to appreciate the photos and I often see that reflected in seeing them used as their avatars on sites like AZB and profile pics on Facebook, etc. I like seeing my images enjoyed.

Yes, you can buy prints on my website, but believe me that is not a significant monetary stream for me. It might cover the cost of hosting the images but certainly doesn't begin to make a dent in my equipment and travel costs. I don't do this photography for money, I do it because I love it. It costs money to host photos on a decent image website such as the service I use (Smugmug). And the reason I pay for good image hosting is that I do like to make my images accessible. Apparently people also enjoy seeing them because poolinaction.com gets tens of thousands of page views every month -- all freely accessible. Actually my preferred "payment" if you will for my photos is a simple, "Thank you, I love your photo".

So, no, there is no need to take my photo down from AZB.

Okay, I am done with this argument. Steve, consider yourself credited for the broken link I have put in the first post at this point. I told you both above and via PM that the links directly from the photo don't work for me. I reiterate, they may work for you because you own the site and are logged in. I have deleted the photo from Flickr.

This is one hell of a silly argument to be having.

No argument here at all -- just maybe some misunderstanding, which could be partly me, lol. I am definitely confused about what isn't working for you to link directly to the original photo.

I found this pic of a half decent player and real decent guy that sometimes posts here on AZ, and all I did was click "Share" (right above the image), selected X-large (BIG player, lol), and then pasted that link into the image dialogue box (the little mountain landscape icon) in my post. If that doesn't work for you (or others) I would like to know that and would try to fix it.

PS, I have the option of NOT making that easy share button available but I specifically do make it available in order to make it easy even for computer hacks like you :thumbup:
