Interesting Quotes From Deno In The Latest Issue Of InsidePool....

Less than 20 days to wait for payment provokes this huge volume of threads and discussion about the demise of the IPT, their rape of the players, how much damage they have done to the state of pool ?!?

I think the worst that has happened is the lack of communication by Deno and Trudeau. I really don't think enough time has passed to lay this harsh judgment on the IPT that has taken most of the pleasure from reading the forums here lately.

Regular employees of any job generally get paid a few weeks after the work is done. Speaking of Reno, it hasn't been that much longer, especially considering so many of the people are "new employees" so to speak, with the issues of multiple addresses, no social security numbers, etc.

Yes, Deno needs to clarify the payment situation to all the players. But everyone who is not involved shouldn't interpret every single thing as evidence or proof of the demise of the IPT.

The fact is, if you look at the winnings of players who have received money from the IPT events so far this year, it adds up to more than all other US pro tournaments combined for the same period. And, I'm being conservative. I could say "in the Western Hemisphere" also. I could probably delete the qualifier, "pro", but I don't have time to add all that up to find out. Anyway, that's a lot of money pumped into pool players pockets already and firmly places the IPT as providing the most significant boost to pool in many years. Of course we all hope the IPT continues for many years, but if it does not, it has already made its positive impact.
Pool players are used to getting their money when they are knocked out of the tournament or when the tournament is over. 3 weeks is reason for major concern. Pool players need to find someone honest to help them form a viable organization. The problem is, most pool players are so used to looking out for number one, they have a hard time seeing beyond their own noses.

i heard of 2 people who got through to the IPT today. One was told checks to be Fedexed tomorrow (dont forget to check Saturday delivery!) and the second was told 'checks go out next week'. The IPT people reached were Lindsey and Deno but i dont know which said what and it is also second hand info so FWIW only.

My random thoughts of the day...

Nostroke, what was the excuse given to these players for the lateness? I couldn't care less that they were told the checks would be sent - in all likelihood, that's probably a lie. But surely the players asked what the holdup was? What was the answer? Probably a lie too, but which lie? I think THAT is the interesting part about getting through to them.

Unrelated, how many of you think KT is even taking this stuff seriously? I have seen him give several interviews over the last year, and if the IPT is even mentioned, it's one sentence out of a whole story. It just seems to me that KT leads a life where the IPT plays but a very small role. I really think he spends the majority of the day impersonating a doctor, rather than impersonating a tournament promoter.

Can you believe they had the nerve to send me an email today about an upcoming telecast? Insert your favorite rolling-on-the-floor-laughing smiley here.

Why are people still playing these qualifiers? If I had signed up for one, I'd have already called my credit card company telling them to stop payment. They're good about this stuff - I think the players would stand a good chance at recouping their entry fees.

Heh, I got that too. The more of these they send out the more people wonder why they can't issue one about the delayed payments.

For the exact same reason they played in them the first time around, for the CHANCE to win a lot of money playing Pool. Yes there's a risk it could all collapse tomorrow and the money disappear, but it was also a risk the first time round when all people had to go on was a made-for-TV dog-and-pony show with Sigel and LJJ.

It all comes down to how much risk people are comfortable with for a $2000 investment. In the Pool community there are a lot of people who take financial risks like that on a daily basis without thinking twice.

Deno has in fact been "around" billiards for quite a while. He is primarily a three cushion billiards player. He also has a bit of a stuck up air to him that is common among "billiard" players.

John

I know a lot of billiard players... most of them are pretty humble and nice.
