Interesting vintage balls

I have seen many clay sets but never this set before. I don't believe the box is correct, nor is it a set of "Darts". The black dots with the numbers are cool and its interesting that there are no stripes on the high balls. The price is a little steep for me too. I collect vintage billiard cues and have a few sets of balls also but I don't need anymore ;)

I agree about the mislabeling as "Dart" and the mistmatched box. They look really old.

Here are the three sets of black-eyed balls that are in the Stellinga's book on billiard collectibles:

Thanks for the pics Bob. The colors of certain balls in this set are also interesting, the high balls don't match the low balls like in most sets. It would be cool to know the process of how these were made.

It looks like there are 15 different colors. I guess you don't really need stripes. Is salmon after mauve? Not much worse than some recent sets.

I think I've seen a similar set as a kid. It was in my best friends grandmothers basement and some of the ball literally were crumbling to dust.

I know this is an old post and they aren't in your possession, but do you happen to know if these are still available?

I don't believe they are. I will try and do some investigating and let you know. My son lives in the Chicago area and he sent me a picture of these and asked if I was interested. I believe they were in an antique store North and West of the city.
I have been back there three times this spring and always check the stores it that area out but never saw this set again.

They were seen here

Might be worth a call.
