Interview With Allen Hopkins

I had a interview with Allen Hopkins yesterday morning. About 5 minutes into the interview, I could tell he honestly had no clue about a lot of the things that have been happening with the IPT.

I stopped the interview, and sent him some information he was missing. We elected to talk again today, once he had a chance to go over some things that have now been brought to his attention.

Allen Hopkins is one of the best things to happen to our sport. He has always maintained his integrity and is a huge asset to us.

I would like to give him the chance to voice his opinion again, once he has all the information.

Good Going, Eydie !

Hi Eydie. Hope all is well. To pre-emptively quell any journalistic-integrity questions, you should probably divulge exactly what information you gave him. At first glance, sending someone information about a topic - and then interviewing him on it - would not be considered impartial.

Keep in mind, I think you did the right thing by stopping the interview. Interviewing someone who doesn't know the facts, and then publicizing that interview, would be classless and totally uninformative.

But the journalist herself sending the subject information could get a bit dicey, too. So I am simply asking that you protect yourself and reveal exactly what you gave to Allen.

Hope you take this in the spirit it is intended, and thanks for all your hard work,
Steve

Your points are very valid, Steve.

I would think that someone about to be interviewed on a particuliar topic would do their own research beforehand.

Notwithstanding that, I am sure that Eydie was simply offering some factual information in an effort to help Allen get started, and not trying to offer a biased point of view.

Jim

So when can we expect you to put up the new, post-eye-opened interview with Mr. Hopkins Eydie?

Allen had a strange attitude and way of speaking. He spoke as though the tournament was completed a week or ten days ago.

Well, yes, but if the only sources of info that Allen knows about are the Inside Pool article and the IPT web site and the IPT emails, his research may not be totally productive.

On the other hand, there is plenty of confusing worthless rumor here. Trying to figure out the truth about this whole thing is not so easy, even for someone used to doing research and critical analysis. Most (all?) of us here are ignorant about many of the important points, but that doesn't prevent most of us from wholesale guessing. And then there is the illumination coming from sources like jasper.

Absolutely Bob, I am not setting a higher standard for Allen than for anyone else.

We can only work with the information available at the time, the rest depends on how hard we are willing to work and our own personal skills.

Update

I just got off the phone with Allen.

He is going to decline making any other comment's until he has all the facts. Although, he did reiterate the comment's he made earlier:

"He does not agree with the possibility any law suits, he is dead set against it. Please sit tight and wait"

Eydie,

I find your posts to be ultra informative and well thought out. You are a great asset to this forum.

Thank you very much.

Having that strong of a position, while admittedly not knowing the facts is curious at best, and may speak volumes.

No one can foretell how this entire situation will conclude, but the one thing that I have personally witnessed hundreds of times is that settlement offers usually increase in proportion to the closeness of the courthouse steps.

When these interviews are done, in what publication can we expect to see them published?

Also, what questions are being asked, and who else can we expect to be interviewed?

Excuse me but if doesn't have the facts he needs to continue the interview, how can he POSSIBLY be dead set against a lawsuit???

Unless he is dead set against ALL lawsuits..which of course, he would be entitled to be.

I just can't help but wonder whether...if he was owed $100-500,000.00 he would be quite so dead set against taking legal action.

(PS: I hereby repeat ALL the Great Champion/Great Guy comments in this thread)

Regards,
Jim

Eydie,
Was the intent of your interview with Allen Hopkin's to discuss the IPT? If yes, then I'd like to respectfully suggest that Allen Hopkins may not have been the best choice for an interview on this topic, especially if he hasn't been keeping up with all of the developments on the IPT.

Yes, the intent was to discuss the letter he had posted, in addition to his thoughts on the subject.

Ummmm, that's why the interview didn't continue. AH made a pretty strong statement on here about the IPT and Eydie called him to discuss it. Once they started talking, she realized that he was not up to date. At that point, the interview stopped so that AH would have the time to educate himself on all matters of the IPT.

I'm curious as to why he made that statement not knowing the facts to begin with...did you ask him if he even made that statement...I just can't see him saying that without knowing more OR he didn't really make that statement....

Without knowing what he did & didn't know, I would guess that maybe he thought he was informed. If he believed the things that KT had to say, he might've thought that the emails sent to the players contained all the info.
