Introducing Billiards to the next generation

Justnum, It's sad but you will be a long time getting an understanding of your meaning here... , I know that you are older and that you love the pool games and care much... Thank you for that... Guy

Yes. And one day....he might even be able to afford to move out of his parent's house.

Promoting institutional change starts with raising awareness. How many billiard promoters will suffer failure?

The next generation of billiard fans will be organized, activists, historians and writers. Its unfortunate the times we live in, maybe 5 billiard writers exist.

The stories of billiard pros are easily forgotten because no one writes, no one maintains the oral tradition of story telling.

This forum is full of users that nit pick with no ability to elevate their thoughts to transcend generations and inspire change.

You and I share one common trait. Neither of us intends to do anything of substance to promote billiards, oppressed women's issues, children's billiard education or Danny Harriman's place on the world stage.

The difference is that I am not claiming I will.

Before mens volleyball became an NJCAA recognized sport. NJCAA institutions hosted clubs and club competitions.

As an active participant in NJCAA sports, I am familiar with the legal compliances for junior college sports.

Creating the next wave of billiard players participating in college is what I have been piloting on my campus.

I have hosted events to attract potential
billiard players. Turnout percentages are usually low.

"Thread thought"?

lol

Maybe English can be one of the courses at the "Academy".

The thread is about introducing pool to the next generation.

Most introductions happen because of a rumor.

Writing about new ways to introduce pool is a thought exercise.

Standard introductions for academic subjects happen by educated professionals. When new products are put on the market, they are either promoted at discounted value or heavily promoted.

The Academy is documenting the trends in billiards in the digital era, it is fascinating for a billiard fan that likes analytics, computers and writing.

The old era of fans that watch pool is over. The new era of smart fans, that will spend money if targeted during live pool events inside of pool apps, is happening. Imagine a few Americans investing to start youtube channels for pool players in emerging nations. If you want to pay for pool, what would people in emerging nations do for your money?

Old fans grew up with live, tv, radio and film. New fans have live streaming with interaction and 24/7 social media access.

I never thought I would participate on an interest based discussion forum when I was young. My bias favors change.

Pat I hear you do amazing things on DrDave videos. Do you have anything to contribute here?

Here are non-technical questions Pat:
Is it worth the money to invest in billiards in emerging nations? Would you invest in individuals or organizations? Which countries would you start with? Assume yes and start in Ethiopia, for a small investment to create billiard spaces to play, how long would it take a women to reach pro level?

Is there place where I can vote for "Most bizarre post of the year"?

You've just got to love this guy. For pure entertainment value he makes Hairyman look like an amateur.

Promoting institutional change starts with raising awareness.
I stopped reading after that.

You don't know pool. You don't know how supply/demand impact recreation.

Yhore virtually devoid of constructive input on virtually everything you touch.

How's the Russian pyramid world these days?

Yes, and you are one of them.

You are fake. You are a troll.

You post over here with all your pseudo-intellectual bullshit. Sad thing is, I don't think you are aware of it. Funny thing is, you are trying to sell your bullshit to people whose main activity involves sniffing out other people's bullshit.

...also, in your infinite creative wisdom, did you ever stop to think some people don't want to elevate this game and like it the way it is?

Tell um.

He proceeds as if though pool is what it is coz of something other than natural development.

It is what it is coz that's what it became. By all measures.

I follow Emily and Karim. They are leading the billiard industry. Expansion is happening.

Oh shit! You follow them? Both?

Not just the pics though,? I presume you know how to read (a presumption I often question, given yewer inability to respond to questions when you... respond to questions).

Damn bish, you ARE legit.

But in all reality, what you are claiming is a Great Evolution is nothing more than your own (2023) biased view of what you see.

Progression of the In formation age provides exposure to a lot more people. That's now.

Video is one of these developments from the past.

Mass production is one of these developments from the past.

Keep thinking all the way back to the invention of sliced bread, examples aplenty.

None of which impact how valuable pool is to people in a macro-sense.

A pedagogical approach to billiard instruction has emphasized the importance of knowing and practicing set patterns.

An innovative approach to billiard instruction is exploration. This innovative approach is a framework to begin thinking about the mental processes during a pool match when you are not playing.

5 psychology objectives to use in the pool hall. If you have a mental function, some players like to rest others like to let it analyze.
If you like to analyze what is happening during a match consider:

Assess a player's tolerance level (when do they break form).
Describe the characteristics of your opponent when given an easy leave. (measure for reaction time: slow or fast)
Describe the characteristics of your opponent when given an tough leave. (measure for reaction time: slow or fast)
Identify if the opponent has trigger habit or trigger reaction. (how fast do they chalk, do they look where they put the chalk down, do they wipe the shaft)
Identify if your opponent is playing below their skill level.

People watching at a pool room is common habit.
Use that free time to be a sociologist or statistician and create a model of the player action.
When I read the title of your post I was happy, as I read your post I realized that the info you are giving seems to be for adults, how about making Pool an afterschool activity, Pool halls giving after school rates to kids and teaching them the fundamentals of how to play, working to get billiards as a recognized sport by the Olympic committee, meet and greets, with Pro players on tour, Tournaments shown on ESPN, using AWS to show speed of stroke, shot probability and the like, these are the things that will spark interest in billiards with kids

The next generation of pool players includes middle aged and senior citizens that have never played pool.

The disposable income for middle and late age adults will have better returns on investment than developing youth interest.

My interest in youth is to organize the billiard sport at the NJCAA level. There is not enough infrastructure to grow the sport at the NJCAA level because there are not enough billiard players in the existing college environment.

If there was infrastructure I would not have to start planning from ground zero.

At the college level should billiards be played as a men only sport and a women only sport? Or as a mixed gender sport?

The lack of existing pool structures to support my vision is why I have to do so much work.

Colleges cant just sign up for Predator
or Matchroom events and receive funding, when the sport is not officially recognized.
There are mixed PRO matches, follow suit, pool is a sport of finesse, perfect sport for both men and women to play
