I'm very proud to finally be able to tell you that "Billiards 101" is now in Apples App Store. I woke up at 3 am to find a email from apple. I logged on just to see it on apples official page.

Sorry to keep a lot of you waiting. To those who download it. I hope you find it useful in some fashion.

Nice. I just checked and it's available in Japan. It's 350yen and I only have 260yen credit right now. Will grab it later for sure.

FIRST!!

It's downloading now. I have a hunch that it's going to be what I'd hoped Capelle's "Practice your Best Pool" would be. I will report later.

Well I could easily list the top 5 issues with the app but I'm sure others will do it for me. I have spent a fortune on apps and this one has the most issues of any app I've ever bought. However I don't think I'll regret buying it.

Well that's an interesting review.

What's the premise/function?

The app is more for players new to the game. It provides some " in the palm of your hand" drills, links, terminology, and can help a user find a instructor in their area. I think the app will be more beneficial to someone new to the game. I also think it can be a useful tool for those who just want to keep their stroke in check.

I hope its useful to some.

But please feel free to send me any feedback (Positive or Negative).

please elaborate before I spend 350yen on this and then get pissed off because it's for beginners.

I think its most beneficial to newcomers over experienced players. But I also feel its a great tool to have on your phone even if you've played pool 20+ yrs like I have. My first goal making this app was to create a tool that would help keep newcomers interested in the game. The more players we have. The larger the audience. The more publicity the game gets. The more subscribers to our many forums. The more income for our cue makers, accessory makers and our pool halls.

I hope everyone likes the app. And those who do not, please let me know what I can do to make it better. ( finnbogg@me.com )

has anyone seen the breakspeed app?

I have it. I've used it 2 or 3 times and it's now collecting dust on my screen. Sorry, my personal need to know how fast my break is really isn't there. It was fun to try the app but I doubt I'll get much use out of it.

there are others that really like it though so don't stick to only my word on it. You may like it.

I bought it just to be supportive of another billiard app. Haven't put it on the ipod yet.

The break speed app??? I honestly do not think that I am getting 24mph breaks. I think I need to read the instructions.

As far as apps go though $6 is a bit hefty for the break speed one in my opinion. I bought it and yes I know that $6 isn't the world and yes I have blown more than that on really stupid stuff. And yes I know the market it small and and and - still $6 for a novelty and I can't even record my breaks to get an average???

Thanks for buying it. Please let me know what you think. What improvements you think can be done to better it.

You can spend $6 on a glass of wine you will piss out the next day or puke up on the limo driver. I personaly love the breakspeed app, and will probably check on this one as well, maybe will help my 10 yr old try some drills finally.

um ok.

The break speed app is ok. It needs some improvements.

I don't regret spending the money but it is a "dust collector" type toy IMO for the average person at the moment.

Billiards 101 needs to make a lot of improvements. I have emailed the developer with my suggestions.

Finn, you asked me for feedback in a pm and I wrote this but it said it was way to long for a pm

The first time I opened the app it sat there and then crashed. I reopened it and the next glitch was when I searched for an instructor I got an error that read 500 root cause: java.lang.outof memory error....then it said coldfusion...over and over. So I had to reopen the app again. The next time I got the list of BCA instructors but was disappointed that there wasn't a back button so I had to go back to the main menu on my phone and reopen the app again. Then I started looking at the drills and was annoyed that most of the drills I clicked on didn't have a video. I felt like the drill should only have the video button available if it does have a video. It seemed like a waste of time to wait for a video to open just to see a video saying no video available.

Now as far as ideas to make it funner. It would be really cool if you had challenges where the person would do ten challenges and they would punch in a number on the app to report how many balls they made without missing for instance. Then after doing ten drills and punching in the data it would say, "Congratulations you are a solid B player. You are a heavy favorite to place in the money at any bar tournament." Or "You are a good C+ player. You are better than most league players."

That is all my feedback. I look forward to trying out the drills. I know they will help my game.

To the folks that mentioned the "Break Speed" app.

I've been using it for over a week now. Like anything else you have to stick with it to give it a chance to do you any good.

I use it every time I break right now. I'm seeing a real improvement in my break speed and now I'm pocketing balls more frequently than I've ever done before Break Speed.

I think it's a real help IF you are looking to improve your break.
