IPT Exemptions fro women in 2007?

I understand that the IPT has 150 players who have their touring cards.
I've also heard that only the top 100 players get to keep their cards and the 50 who don't make it have to requalify (like golf) to get their touring cards again.

I'm not a male chauvanist,;) :D however:

Given the fact that men (in general) are stronger in pool, wouldn't it stand to reason that many of the ladies will not make the top 100?

I think it is good to have some women players guaranteed to have exemptions for next year and perhaps Trudeau should let the top 5 (or at least three)keep their cards even if they don't finish in the top 100.

Trudeau is trying to sell the sport on TV and having a few quality women players involved can captivate a female audience for sure.Just some thoughts I had, any comments appreciated.

What do you think guys, keep some women, or like Darwin says "survival of the fittest."

There are alot of weak players that will get weeded-out by 2007. I think that Allison, Karen, and maybe Kelly Fisher play good enough to stay for next year.

I agree with cuetechasaurus. Fisher and Corr should make the Top 100 this year. Gerda, Monica Webb, Kelly Fisher, and Helena Thornfeldt could make the Top 100.

In the qualifying tournament for next year, Jeanette Lee, Ga-Young Kim, and Jasmin Ouschan would all be strong contenders to get their tour cards.

A top-18 finish next week would almost guarantee a top 100 finish for the year, so it will be interesting to see if any of the women make it that far.

There are plenty of women that will be able to maintain their spots on the tour. Whether a woman can ever win an IPT event is a bigger question. I think I heard Mike the Mouth mention something about the women's weaker break a few dozen times during the KOTH telecasts:)

Weaker break? I played Kelly last night and out of 8 racks she broke and ran out 6 of them. And I mean some tough runouts too. Efren doesn't break hard and makes a ball every time.

Cheyenne Pete Trujillo breaks 8 ball at like 5mph and gets 2-3 balls each time.

Kelly is a threat to beat any player in the tournament by running out the set on the them.

The pressure will be on the guys because they are "supposed" to win. Kelly just plays the table.

I have $100 that says Kelly retains her tour card for 2007.

I was making fun of the manufactured Mike Sigel chauvinism and not Kelly's ability. I'm sure plenty of the guys playing next week would love to have Efren's break (or Kelly's for that matter).

I haven't been watching too many of the WPBA telecasts lately, so I'm still stuck in the Fisher/Corr era. Kelly should get into the top 100 barring any unlucky tough draws or cold streaks of bad rolls.

Unfortunately, in this format, running racks does not mean what it does in the double-elimination events. To win, someone has to have a hot week instead of a hot day.

I base my opinions on the game of 9 Ball. I have never seen these woman play 8, which is a much easier shot making game, so i could be wrong...

Jeanette Lee is not a strong contender. People just say this because it sounds like the right thing to say. If you really look at her game, she is good but can't touch the unknown competition. She really missed out by not getting in at the begining. I would not be surprised if she never gets in. Thats got to be rough to live with... Its like playing the same lottery numbers for 10 years and then forgetting play them one week when they hit...

Webb is also a pretty weak player. Don't really know why people always bring her name up. I've seen her play in person and on TV. B player is my guess...

I think Corr and Fisher will be the only two with a chance. It will be a game of who can run more racks so anybody has a chance if they runout. If Kelly Fischer can run 6 packs, she must be strong in 8 Ball.

I'd really like to see Wonder Woman go all the way. At least, I hope she kicks Sigels ass :)

I think its great that the woman will get to play with the men. No more wondering how the woman match up. Run racks or go home.. That will be the real proof...

I've always thought that strength didn't matter when it came to pool. Only on the break, is where I could even see a possibility with it; however, I've noticed many times over, from one of my favorite breakers Johnny Archer, a big break doesn't always mean victory. Ever since the introduction of the BreakRac II, I've noticed that there is as much strategy in a break as there is in running a table out. So if one can spread the balls enough and control the cue ball consistently, they can be very competitive.

Do you want the best in the IPT? Or don't you?

If not, then make an exception for me and let me play in it.

Good Grief Charlie Brown.

I ageer, I aeger, I egrea, damn can't say it :D but yes how ridiculous would it be to let a women keep her place simply because of her sex?! Imagine if you finished 101st and you had to give up your place to the lady who finished 145th! I hope some of the women keep their places and I'm sure a few will this year but come on, I doubt many of them would accept the charity anyway.

Racking ...

Is it 'Rack your own' or does the opponent rack? And at what stage of the tournament will an independent racker be used?

I think they announced that Sardo will be the official racker. Can you just see him running around from table to table trying to keep all 64 tables going.

Oh no wait, they are just using the Sardo rack.

They had the refs rack at the KOTH.

Jake

They didn't have refs rack at the KOH. Maybe for the finals. I seem to remember Johnny Archer complaining about Karen Corr not putting the Sardo in the right spot. I would still check the rack every time.

Running through the initial "draw", I came across something interesting. All of the ladies are lumped together in the first 15 groups. There are no women in groups 16-40. Just an observation.

edit: 1 per group till he ran out of women, ensuring no ladies play each other in the first round. hmm...

Yes, that is one of the things they did when making the lists up when selecting the groups. They also put all the older legends one to a group as well.Somewhere at the IPT website they list how they purposly divided up the legends, the women and I think the seeded players equally with one per list with some overlaps.
