IPT is over and done, but what are the options now?

The IPT is over, no matter what KT or anybody else says. So there are 2 paths as I see it:

1. Players accept the reduced payout. I am sure KT will never organize a tournament after that. He gets to pay off his obligations for 33 cents on the dollar and still profits and is exclusive owner of all the video content etc. Even it this case it is not sure that the players will actualy get anything, as we know KT and his promises.

2. The players do not accept the reduced payout and sue KT. He will then file for bankruptcy. However, that does not mean that they cannot get their money by sueing him, as if it can proved that he is solvable they might be able to win the case (as there is a written statement of him saying that he will personally guarantee the money). Of course the risk is that they lose the case.

I don't see any other options. I personally would choose the second one as in the first one KT gets off on the cheap and gets to still sell all the video's etc. and make money off that. In the second option at least you get to take the liar to court. Also if then is shown that he really cannot pay for the payouts it is proven in court that all the talk of him being a billionair was a fake (who really believes they guy is worth even 10 million?). Finally this second option would also mean that he will not be able to sell the video's etc. as this income should go to the players.

IN short, sue this guy's ass off baby!

I still say that getting 1/3 of something is alot better than 100% of NOTHING. I know it benefits some players more than others, but I say take what you can get now. If this does get all tied up in a court case, it could be months or even years before it gets resolved. There has been posts about lawyers working this for free....I seriously doubt that will happen...especially if it gets drug out for a long time. Sometimes you have to chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on. I'm not condoning KT offering a settlement as a solution, Im just being realistic about the situation at hand. I know that some of the players could use this money now instead of way way way down the road.

Simply An Oversight ? I Wonder !!!!!

IPT is over and done, but what are the options now?

Has anyone considered that the mastermind behind the whole IPT fiasco could be Mike Howerton ? He's garnered 100s of new registered users, created a NEW AZB section with neary 30,000 views and 2,000 posts, moved to a 'larger' server and has been accused of reading PMs......
I'm not certain what his motive might be..... YET.
Doug
(and banning tinfoil wearing members that may possibly be 'in-the-know' )
(next thing, he'll be innocently joining in the threads)
What ARE the options now ? Hmmmmmmm, I'm befuddled... imo

You do have a devious mind Doug.

Suspicious too.

You don't think that possibly KT had his lawyers get a court order sent to Mike to make sure that he saves everything that is said on this board now do you? That would include the PM's. And that he must not divulge that fact. That would explain why the PM's have been shut off. But that could be deemed interference with a court order.

Now everyone knows that JAM is in court on a daily basis and she is intelligent enough to understand that anything she writes can, and will, be used against her if possible. So she is pretty smart to stay away from this board. It looks like JAM and Keith have proved to be very savy in this whole matter. My hats off to them.

When this is all over KT will own both Timberly and Eydie. Timberly most likely doesn't have a pot to pee in but Eydie does have a tour that she must protect. Since neither one of them have a vested interest in the IPT it surprises me that they are so stupid to get so involved over something that does not even concern them.

This IPT thing is a failed business venture and there is no way anyone can prove anything other than that. KT most likely put in over 6 million of his own hard earned dollars and lost it all. Now he sees it as a failed venture and must end it.

He tried to save it but there are people on this board who worked against him and actually called people to not participate in it. They called the pool room owners and spread rumors about KT.

Yes KT is a convicted criminal but so is Behrman. Is everyone now going to stop going to the US Open?

Since Eydie and Timberly have me on ignore I sure hope no one wises them up. It will be fun watching them go down.

I suggest everyone stop posting on here about what the IPT players should do unless you want to be part of the litigation. Mike will have to produce names of everyone if requested. I am sure he does not want that extra expense and headache.

I find it humorous that posters are now turning on Macman. Amazing how fast they turn on you.

TTFN - I am going into stealth mode now. No more post for me. There is no reasoning with idiots. It amazes me that Jim continues to do so. He will learn. They are starting to turn on him too.

Alan Hopkins too. Destined to be the next HOF'er. Has always helped the pool world and people who are not worth cleaning his cue are turning on him. Idiots. The pool world is full of idiots.

Pool players sure are stupid. Nothing but lemmings.

Hi Jake.
Not that I have anything invested in any of this other than reading previous posts, but after reading this thread I have to add......comments about the IPT are simply opinions of the people in the pool world (no different then any other thread) from the actions that have come to what appears to be fruition - people are not stupid, they read the signs and run with it - I think everyone would have been happy to be proven wrong, but so far, that is not the case. the statements people have made did not kill the tour - that comes from unfullfilled promises from the organization - maybe the tour had too high of expectations initially, who knows - admit it and move forward, don't discount the money the players made by appearing in the event from them. it would be no different then saying another company (insert any) has terrible service, doesn't provide the service expected or promised, etc. - in my opinion, everyone in the pool world would have benefited by the organization prospering, but in the end, it was the actions of the organization that appears to have caused its demise. a finally note, my pms work just fine - not sure what the other issue is.

take care,

There is just to much in Jakes post to rebut, so I'll just post this article about how the First Amendment applies to the internet.

This article is dated 2001, but I believe that the decision has been upheld.
If I am wrong, feel free to correct me.

Chat-room users' identity won't be revealed
By The Associated Press
04.21.01
SEATTLE — Chat-room users accused by a bankrupt Internet company of posting critical messages in an effort to drive its stock price down will not be identified, a federal judge has ruled.
The company, 2TheMart.com Inc., said it needed the 23 users' names to defend itself against a shareholder lawsuit that alleges it misled investors. The lawsuit was filed in California after 2TheMart went bankrupt soon after its stock rose more than 2,000%, to $50 per share in 1999.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly ruled on April 19 that evidence the company provided was not compelling enough to set aside the First Amendment rights of the chat-room users, who used nicknames.
"The First Amendment clearly applies to the Internet," Zilly said. "The law says that a person has a right to speak anonymously."
The Irvine, Calif.-based company, which had hoped to compete with Internet auction giant eBay, claims the chatters conspired to spread rumors to drive down the company's stock price so they could profit by selling it short.
2TheMart wanted Bellevue-based Infospace to turn over the names of people who chatted on a site it maintained. 2TheMart wanted to prove that some of the chat room users also are members of the class-action suit against the company for alleged securities fraud, company attorney Keith Bardellini said.
One of the chat room users nicknamed "No Guano" and identified in court documents as "J. Doe," turned for help to the American Civil Liberties Union and the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an Internet privacy group.
Zilly said on April 19 he agreed with 2TheMart attorneys that "rights to speak anonymously are not unlimited." But he said the company's reasons for wanting the names were not sufficient, saying the firm made no direct claim against the users, except for "innuendo" that they had manipulated the stock.
Kelsey Joyce Hooke, an attorney for 2TheMart, said the company had not decided whether to appeal.
ACLU attorney Aaron Caplan called the ruling a significant victory for Internet users.
The ruling is important because it gives Internet companies guidance for protecting customers' rights, Infospace attorney Brent Snyder said.
