IPT player list.....who are these players????

JAM said:
Mike Zuglan - a glaring omission, one of New York State's champion players, a veteran to the tournament trail, and the Joss TD, a 12-year-long existing tour.

Cliff Joyner - most likely, subject to check, had no access to a computer and did not submit his application before September 30th, 2005.

Michael Coltrain - though a strong North Carolinian young gun, he quit playing competitively due to an arm shake, but he is still a familiar face on the tournament trail, one of the BEST handicappers in the business.

Ryan McCreesh - did not submit an application before Spetember 30, 2005.

Tommy D'Alfonso - a young gun who prefers to fly under the radar and travel on the road to unknown destinations, application most likely not submitted before September 30, 2005.

JAM

IMO, the worst glaring omission was Danny Harriman. His application was complete, yet he was not selected.

I would be very surprised if Jeanette was able to win a qualifier through the IPT. Its really a shame that she is not part of the IPT because she is the game's most recognizable personality. I'm sure its just a matter of time before George gets in though. I can see George winning an IPT event. If I was on that selection committee, the Breedlove's would have been high on my priority list for this tour.

Does anybody know what Warren Kiamco is up to? I hope he's doing okay. I heard he was having visa issues, but I would have thought that had been worked out by now. I think Warren would do well with this format.

Is Dan Louie planning on entering any qualifiers? He's another awesome player that can still hit the balls well.

If some notable Hall of Famers and/or veterans of the sport are "grandfathered" in the first season, I think other omissions would be: Ronnie Allen, C.J. Wiley, Jimmy Reid, Reed Pierce, Ronnie Wiseman, just to name a few. These gentleman, some of whom I have seen at many events in my short existence on the tournament trail, are very worthy.

Jimmy Reid has recently dropped off the face of the earth. Haven't seen him at any event in recent times.

Reed Pierce is one of Mississippi's finest and heralded as an American legend. He did attend the IPT KOTH in Orlando and is interested in getting in on the IPT tour, as is C.J. Wiley.

Ronnie Wiseman did not submit his application in before September 30th. Think long, think wrong.

The senior Ronnie Allen has no computer skills and most likely did not hear about the IPT until after the fact. He is, without a doubt, an American champion, a name-brand player in the States. When I first got into the sport, his name was always on the lips of every player I knew. Colorful guy, a seasoned veteran who is forgotten.

JAM

All notable players who IMHO belong on that list in front of half of the players on the existing list. I know, I know no matter who is on the list there will be someone who doesn't agree with it, such is life. This is why we are here right? To discuss these OPINIONS.

Broadhurst, Jackie - Very capable player
Butera, Sal - Has been around forever. He's Ronald McDonald too!
Catledge, Wayne - A buddy of mine - has played pro for years
Czetli, Aaron - awesome player, friends with Corey
Bernie Friend, - Great bar table player from NY
Jones, Sammy - Come om, Gerorge, you're kidding, right? Top shelf NE player, he's married to Loree Jon. He deserves to be there.

I'm not saying he doesn't belong there David I'm just looking to be enlightened as to some of these players credentials, that's all.

Jones, Tammy - Awesome player. Wish she'd play more!
Keller, Ryan - Got me there.
Murphy, Austin - Awesome player.
Raney, Jim - Got me there.
Roberts, James - Got me there.
Schwartz, Larry - One of the best 8 ball players alive. Great guy, very knowledgable.
Zimmerman, Michael - I only know of Mike from what I have read here. Sounds to me as if he is a superb player.

I didn't even mention female players that I think maybe should be there, Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villareal just to name a couple. Both are excellent players and very entertaining to watch.

In plain English, I agree that there are a bunch of people that won't be that competitive on the IPT. FWIW, they probably won't be on the tour next year. After the "lower" echelon is forced to re-qualify, 2007 will be a much different IPT.

Sooo... This year, the first year, will be a "fine tuning" year. Eventually, I think the cream will rise to the top. IMO, of course.

But with over 10,000 applications and only 150 openings it is pretty hard to please everyone.

That's a cute trick. The number goes up a couple thousand every time this topic comes up. :D

I guess one of the things I'm trying to comprehend is where are the players like Zuglan, Joyner, Bernatchez, Coltrain and young guns like McCreesh and D'Alfonso. I could make a list of probably 40 players if I wanted to take the time(which I don't). There just seems to be some pretty obvious players missing from this list and too many unknowns.

George

How about Marco Marquez and Gil Hernandez? From what I heard, Marco just didn't do the paperwork.

Michael Cernero
Mary Kenniston
John Kutcher

These are three more names I would be interested in hearing more about. I wont even bother asking about the Croatian champions that are listed that no one ever heard of .

Mary Kenniston = Mary Guarino
Played the WPBA tour till mid 90's(?). Several WPBA wins. Strong female player from the time when Balukas, Loree Jon , Robin Dodson, EWA were dominant. She'll also show some game.

Terry

Well, another thing about the selection process which I think makes for such a mixed list of players, is that they did not wait for ALL the applications to come in before making their selections. I know of at least one player that knew he'd made at least a month before the deadline.
I think had they waited for all applicants it might have been different. I also think manypool players are not internet savvy and really just missed the boat on the whole thing till it was too late. As someone else mentioned this was probably the case with Cliff.
I do really like the fact they took more into account than just the name on the application when they made thier choices.

And from what I have heard about Tammy Jones, she should be feared, I believe she finished very high in big tournament in Memhis just a few months ago...I think she owns an APA league but I am not sure about that?

A few good players are there, but there is one weak player that sticks out

I guess it is because I know him. But Wayne Catlidge should no way be there over Danny Hairyman. Wayne is a good A player, but I have never seen him win more than 1 match in any of the pro events he enters.

I agree that the cream will rise.. I would like to see the cutoff mark to keep your card lowered. Maybe the top 75. With 100 people keeping their card, it will take longer to get the best players on tour. The lower number would also help to discourage the players from doing "business" with each other.

I know the guy. He can't play at that level. He is a B class player at best.
Ask anybody from NYC about Bernie, they will say the same.
IMO of course.

Adding commentary to the list.

Who ever heard of Jason Miller, Shane Van Boening, Brian Groce?

And they too will all have their moments of fame due to the IPT.

.

Considering that Jason won the World Bank Pool Championship two years ago, and got his second this year (along with the all-around), it's safe to say that mucho people have heard of him.

Shane Van Boening just won the Windy City 8-ball tournament, and has been a top young gun for the past several years. So, it's safe to say that many people have heard of him.

Some of us will recognize Brian Groce from the Derby City Classic, but he is one of the under-the-radar players.

Also Fred, most people maybe don't realize this. Shane and Brian WON their way into the IPT. It's hard to argue that they don't deserve to be there, they earned it.

Jake doesn't do "facts" :D

Hey come on - I resemble that remark.

A little "puffing' never hurt no one.

Ask any realestate salesperson.

A thousand - ten thousand - pretty soon you will want me to account for every million dollars spent as one politician was known to say.

hello, this is bernie friend ipt player as far as being called a good B rated player, maybe so, however, i could rise to an A+ player very easily, and that has been proven. many B players are just that, B players now and forever, no matter, i however, can rise to break and run out into the A+ status, i've proven this to myself and others, now with that all said, oh and by the way, i made my money by playing on bar tables in tournaments, however i excell on regulation sized tables, so don't let the bar table write up fool you, but here is my point, i am not in the same catogory as mika immonen and nick van den berg, two of the greatest players on the ipt in my opinion. now, how did the ipt choose it's first 150 players? enthusiasum, they wanted players that were DIEING to prove their skills, not players that were on the fence. as kevin said at the last meeting in orlando, "hey, if your not keen on this tour, and you feel you don't really want to try to be on it so much, then DON'T!!! i don't want you anyway! i only want players that are pro 8-ball pro money, and pro ipt! makes sense right, so that was the first criteria, the second was what you had to write in, were you coherant, or bla-zay?, then the deadline, how early were you to write in, and also they checked and verified your "story" and if it wasn't true, you weren't in. now the biggest irony of all this is this~~~~~ alex paguliyan perhaps the strongest player right now, along with van den berg, thought that the ipt was invatational, and he waited for THEM to send him an invite, to his suprise, he found out, you had to submit, who you are and what you've won!!! well, he's in the ipt now, and rightly so!! i feel blessed and fortunate that i'm in and i would like to think that my game can stand up to a lot of the other players, i believe it can. oh yeah, let me tell you breifly about the other players, that you might not have heard of, they are SENSATIONAL!!! tammi jones who i had the misfortune of playing was sensational, spot on!!! vince goh was strong and in stroke, phil harrison was the fastest and most accurate player i ever saw, he left me shaking!!!, everyone one of the 150 ipt players that i had the privlage to play with or see shoot, were, fantastic, there will be PLENTY of upsets, and by mid 2007 all the names you never heard of will be the big guns, mark my words, the 150 list is ULTRA-STRONG. as far as my playing, i will hold my own and will play as hard as i can, to stay for the 2007 season, if not, i was privlledged to have had the chance of my lifetime. i hope that everyone here supports the ipt, and let's all watch it unfold before us in 2006.
