IPT production cost???? Gerda/Strickland Match...

This thread is not meant to predict the doom of the IPT. This is intended to be constructive criticism.

One of the the saling points of the IPT was the production quality. However, at times it seamed as if it was being filmed by my uncle who used to film our birthday parties. The camera was shaking, the shots were out of focus and the camera was zooming in and out very quickly. Simply stated the photography sucked. The photography was especially horrible during Gerda and Strickland match. KT should consider getting cameras that are mounted on remote controled booms.

Originally I was one of the posters that thought the pros would make 8 ball look easy. I am here to say that I was dead wrong. I have never seen pros trade misses on the money ball like that. As the IPT develops I think that kind of slop will be cleaned up and we will see better play.

I can agree with the concept of trying to sell pool like poker. Poker is hot on tv right now, and everybody and their grandmother thinks they can play. The IPT doing 8 ball, and coming up with an almost soap opera character system for the players is a bit hideous to watch for other pool players though. BUT it would appeal to the average Joe who goes out and thinks they can play at the bar or the bowling alley on Sunday afternoon.
The whole Mike the Mouth obnoxious thing is a little overblown, yes Sigel is a bit of a loudmouth at times, but if a moniker needed to be used, I think they should have stuck with Captain Hook.
Anyhow, the missing and the rattled balls makes me wonder about other tournament table setups. Have we watched tourneys on 5" pockets for too many years? The players seem genuinely disgusted with their misses.
Time will tell, remember Trudeau is a con man. He has had plenty of legal troubles through the years, and always finds a new scam that avoids further litigation. Maybe if the IPT fails, he will start a new pool league, this time with black lights and glow in the dark balls.......

They did have a boom camera. A lot of the cameramen, maybe all of them, were free lancers, independent contractors, and for all we know this was the first time they ever worked a pool tournament.

Was it the first time they had ever worked a camera? I have to agree about the shakiness and sloppiness of some of the cinematography. It did have a certain "Blair Witch Project" quality to it. Though I don't think it was as bad as <mnorwood> does.

Regardless of what Trudeau's past has been, I think most people can agree that Trudeau and the IPT has been pretty good so far for the 8-ball game and the players.

All in all I think that the coverage was better this week than last. Mike can be a little hard to take at times, but hey he's Mike "the Mouth" Siegal so it's almost expected.

Before anybody starts bad mouthing the pro's, those table are not easy to shoot on 4 1/2 inch pockets with deep cut slate will punish anybody except the players that play on that setup all the time. The slower cloth only makes things that much more difficult to judge.

Black Cat.
