IPT Promises

The IPT was a great time in history.

It proves the point that when a victim wants to be sold on hopes and dreams, they will volunteer their time, money and words to keep it alive. Regardless of who delivers the message a chance at something better, dreaming is better than dealing with what everyone knows is broke.

Whats the next big sales idea, selling American pool to foreign markets? How about all night pool tournaments to see who can play when they are half asleep? I like the idea of a pool organization with long term goals.

i'm with you - if they ever get the kinks out this will be a great thing for everybody involved. don't be discouraged - there will always be naysayers trying to thwart anything new and exciting with their so-called facts and reasoning...

Naysayers have their reasons, it would be unwise to be close minded to other people's reasoning.

I will say this hopefully for the last time. TruDough was trying to pull of a World Poker Tour type of stock market hustle. He wanted to build up the IPT, then issue stocks and make millions that way. All this talk about going online and booking action etc. etc. is nothing but a bunch of hot air. TruDough NEVER even made contact with the people in Macau (The Ho group), that he was supposedly doing business with. That was just a smoke screen for his not paying off at the last event.

It's true the IPT did pay out a few million dollars over a three year period. But they took in nearly a million from the exorbitant qualifier fees ($2,000 a pop), and also failed to pay for the television air time or even the hotel bills at the Venetian. In the end he stiffed everybody, only paying players for fear of being jailed. His intentions were never good, and anyone who thinks otherwise is only kidding themselves. He was in it for himself and all his big talk was just a lot of posturing. He took a shot to pull off a sweet financial hustle and when it failed he bailed out, leaving everyone else (including his employees) holding the bag. The man is not worthy of anyone's respect. He's a snake, a scam artist and a con man who has avoided jail by using his money to buy high paid attorneys.

And that's the name of that tune!

There are some pool players who do, in fact, think the IPT was a great experience and wish it had achieved success. It wasn't all bad for them. In fact, some state it was the best experience in pool in their lifetime, bar none. I guess it depends on which side of the fence you're on.

Me personally, from what I witnessed at various IPT events, great efforts were made to create an international tour. It wasn't perfect. Mistakes were made along the way, but I don't feel Kevin Trudeau was a bad guy. I do think he was misinformed. If he wanted to eventually make a profit on his multi-million-dollar investment, I don't see what's wrong with that.

He and/or the IPT staff stepped on some toes, and five years later, the repercussions are still reverberating. :embarrassed2:

One thing we can agree on is the IPT dress code was a step in the right direction.

I still think the IPT was a stroke of genius. Not on Trudeau's part, but on Sigel's. No way Kevin came up with it on his own, Mike was in his ear from the start. It may have started perfectly innocent on Mike's part, but he sure found a way to make it a good money maker for himself while it lasted!

Now, I'm not knocking Mike Sigel at all for what he did, as I said, I think it was a stroke of genius on his part. It was great for some while it lasted. To bad it was unworkable as it was.

What is genius to start a business that is terminal from the start? Stupid people do that everyday.

What is genius is to get a rich guy to front the money, then set you up in easy big payday matches.

It would have made more sense to do something long term with long term benefits, not something destine to fail for a short term gain. That is what all pool players do and why most have nothing. They are short term people, who can't see beyond today. It would have been nice if the IPT had actually done something that was lasting, it would have actually been easy, but they blew their wad all at once ending up with nothing. Too bad they didn't do it right.

You can't write off that fiasco to making a few mistakes or bad luck. That thing didn't have a chance from the start and that is the saddest part, because it didn't have to end up like it did. Much in the way Allen Hopkins and the Derby carefully spend the whole years preparing for one event, the IPT could have done maybe 2 or 3 good events a year and built on it as they learned and innovated making something that could have been revolutionary. But no, they blew it all on one turn of the wheel without a clue what they were doing.

Tap Tap, you pretty much summed it up there. Some people will continue to look through their rose colored glasses at the IPT because they got a nice check or two and the setting was pretty. Kind of like any good scam, they always look so good at first. It's called putting up a false front! Some people are still fooled by the illusion he created of wealth and fame to come. It was all a pipe dream!
