Are these for a tour card, or are they for entries into a tournament?
That is all? lol That can be worth quite a lot of money if the players that qualify do well.hi-lighter said:Thanks,

Now how much are they charging for these one-tournament qualifiers? And correct me if I'm wrong, but once someone has qualified for a single tour event that way, don't they still have to play the $1k (or the $500 for half-winnings) on top of that?
I'm starting to wonder... people keep saying that the IPT is putting so much cash out there for the players, but it seems like it's TAKING a significant amount from LOTS and LOTS of players to start with - sometimes so much that, I'd wager, a lot of people get soured on ever trying to participate ever again due to the expense.

The IPT is scheduled to have five tournaments and a qualifying tournament for a 2007 IPT tour card. Those five tournaments combine for a whopping $8,540,000 in prize money. That's right, over 8.5 MILLION DOLLARS! There are 25 qualifying tournaments. Let's say each qualifier averages 20 players (they don't even come close, but let's err on the high side so we can see how the numbers work out). That means if each player pays the full $1000 for the qualifier, then the IPT is getting all of $500,000 from the qualifiers. This doesn't even cover the purse for the first tournament, let alone all five. Add in TV production, venue costs, business costs, travel expenses, costs associated with qualifiers in the first place, etc., and the qualifiers aren't even a blip on the radar. Keep in mind that high places in qualifiers (without winning) gets a player free entry into another qualifier, so in reality, the qualifiers aren't generating anywhere near $500,000. This is an insignificant number compared to what the IPT plans to disburse over the next 6 months.

You're right, I thought there were 25 qualifiers in total, but there are 25 PER event. In any case, that's still a very generous number, as I purposefully over-compensated for the number of players per qualifier. I'd wager that the actual amount generated by qualifiers is less than half that figure, since the average turnout per qualifier has been around 11 players (and that doesn't count high finishers playing in multiple qualifiers for one entry fee). That still is just a drop in the bucket compared to 8 1/2 million dollars.thebighurt said:Actually it would be $ 2.5 million not $ 500,000. There are 25 qualifying tournaments for each of the 5 big tournaments
