IPT Weak Player Option...

Should the IPT be able to buy back someone's card? I think so, yes, if the player agrees to the buyback deal, let the IPT buy back the card. If the player does not agree, it depends on the terms of the contract that was signed when the card was issued. The IPT might be obligated to wait until the player drops off at the end of the season if those were the terms agreed upon.
Should anyone be able to join the IPT by personally buying out someone's card? Without IPT approval, no. Most or all other types of jobs wouldn't work that way. The IPT was looking for two things, mainly the best pool players in the world, and initially, they were also looking for someone with a personality that would contribute to the success of the tour. A card holder doesn't have the right to hand off their employment to someone who is not qualified for the job.
Now, if the IPT reserved the right to review the buyout of a card, then that is a completely different story. A player should only be allowed to sell their card if the IPT approves the person who buys it.
[facetious] Even in the example that Gabber gave, that actually might keep a random viewer's attention. If some banger with a lot of moolah had a lifelong dream of playing professional pool, it could be entertaining to watch them pay thousands of dollars just to get totally spanked on national TV by a pro. However the commentators would have to make it clear to the audience that this person paid their way in, and that person would need to wear lots of glitzy jewelry, a fur coat, shoot with a diamond-studded cue, have a harem as corner-women, etc.
The downside is that it probably wouldn't be entertaining for very long, and its really only appealing to the side of viewer that wants to see a freak-show. Maybe limit it to just one of these types of people (not that they'd even be able to find a single one.) [/facetious]

The point that you're missin' here, brother, is that, in your example, you would have been eliminated long ago... not having made the cut on Day One (likely)... cuz you don't have the skill set to make it to Sunday's final round... right?... again, using the golf comparison.
In the same vein, if an IPT cardholder were allowed to sell their card, assumably the person buying it would possess a higher skill set than the seller... or why would the seller even be interested?
And obviously, the card could not be sold in the middle of a tournament.
Perhaps that is what you have in mind, considering your comments.

Also don't understand why you could possibly think that the skill level of the buyer relative to the skill level of the seller would affect in any way the interest that the seller has in selling it? The hypothetical seller surely just wants the most money he can get for it,even if the buyer only has one arm and is registered blind.Are you suggesting that he'd be more interested in selling it a pool ace for 5k than to a short stop for 10k?
Before anyone gets too serious over this reply I confirm that I am well aware of the hypothetical nature of this forum.The IPT player's tour card doesn't belong to him so he can't sell it,neither can the PGA pro sell his PGA Tour card and none of us can (legally) sell our passports as they don't belong to us either.The notion of IPT ever agreeing to a player selling his card is also absurd so this subject can probably be put to bed
