I tried to reply to the post three times, but got knocked off (LOL). Koop is correct. It is James Tolkan from "Back to the Future" and "Top Gun." He was the "featured celebrity guest" at the Turning Stone Classic IV, which was won by Steve Tavenier earlier this year.

James Tolkan was very gracious and posed for numerous pictures and signed autographs for all in attendance. He also competed in the tournament at that time.

I believe he lives in upstate New York and would have attended the Joss Tour Season Finale at the Turning Stone last month, but the IPT extravaganza in Las Vegas with Sigel vs. Jones occurred on the same weekend.

ok....WOW...its the principle from back to the future...

That's cool, I'm glad to see he's into pool so much. How does he hit'm? Maybe he'll be one of the magic 50 to head-up the IPT, since he has "inside" connections.
Thanks for the info.

Here's a shot of James Tolkan hitting 'em at the Joss tourney earlier this year. He's a pleasant fellow. I didn't get to sweat any of the matches, though. I heard he had a beautiful table at home. Though an actor, he's definitely a member of the Tribal Nation of Pool, as we all are. :p

Dude, if it helps any, I'm wigged out myself! LOL

If you're talking about this dude in the white suit, I think he's an actor or looks like an actor that I'm think of:

I think it makes sense to wait until the end of the application process before saying "NO". That way, they won't prematurely eliminate someone who might be a borderline candidate. I'm not saying that is the case with Keith, but I think it would be the fairest thing to do in general.

Colin, what did the confirmation email say? Was there any sort of contract or other new information in the email?

Thanks.
Also in response to JAM,
I just received this 14 hours ago, so they may still be sorting through applications.

Anyway, I hope this is not a breach, but it doesn't seem confidential. Here is the email content:

Hello Colin,
I am happy to inform you that you have been selected to become a member of the International Pool Tour for 2006. Please contact me at your earliest opportunity to confirm that you would still like to be a member and to discuss a few details. Additionally, I will be asking you to send photographs of yourself, either as e-mail attachments or by mail. My contact information follows my signature block.

Thank you for your prompt response, and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Actually he uses a Tad with a Predator shaft, they did an article in Inside Pool a while ago on the what's in his case.

Just wondering. Why is the IPT not inviting pros like Keith to play on the IPT? If I were to start a tour like the IPT, I would do my homework first and have a list of players that I definately would like to have playing on my tour. Instead of waiting for the players to apply, I would send them an invitation. With no disrespect to the guys that received the email invitations, I think Keith deserved an invitation more.

The shots of the celebs at the tournament really does look like a shot at the cast of the Surreal Life. They've even got the Save By the Bell dude.

No offense taken.

But I think we'll have to wait a while longer to see exactly how they are planning to put the players together.

It may be that they are sorting out some international players. (guessing) and that there are limited entries at this stage and not easy to go through the associations as channels.

eg. I'm pretty sure Taiwan would ban their players from this. But then again, they don't play much 8-ball there from what I understand. That transition would be tough.

Anyway, I shoundn't speculate too much at this stage, but I thought perhaps my email was something hundreds of applicants had received. But it appears not. Here's crossing my fingers that I get a run. Time to practice :D

I am discouraged. I e-mailed them a week or so ago about paying the lifetime membership of 899 bucks and as well competing in the Orlando event in December. The website states you must be paid up by September.

To date, I have had absolutely no response. Since I have contacted the IPT, they have now updated their website, but have not responded to my inquiry in the form of an e-mail.

Is there an actual person who responds to prospective players' inquiries about upcoming events? They have my e-mail, telephone numbers, and home address. I'm not too hard to get a hold of. :p

I am beginning to believe that it is who you know when it comes to the IPT. Thus, another political animal is born. I wish the other players good luck. How fortunate they are to be hand-picked to play in the first event. All others can just sit back and watch the show, I guess.

JAM, I received this email from the IPT...............

"MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

Because of the overwhelming number of applications that we have received from all over the world, we will only accept applications until September 30th, 2005 or until the 150 Players have been selected, whichever comes first. No exceptions.

If you are interested in playing for the IPT in 2006, please submit your application today. You will be contacted no later than the first week of November regarding the status of your membership request.

To apply for membership, go to www.internationalpooltour.com/ipt/join/default.asp and apply for tour membership.

If you have any general questions about the IPT, please email us at info@internationalpooltour.com or simply hit the reply button.

Use this link if the form does not work

This email was delivered to you on behalf of International Pool Tour. Leave this mailing list, or modify your profile. If you request to be taken off this email list, International Pool Tour will honor your request."

JAM, did you sign up to receive emails from them on the IPT website?

I am sure world rankings and international representation are factors in selection... It will probably be like Pro Golf (and the new Poker pro tour) and evolve year to year based on performance the previous year and in other events not necessarily associated with this tour... (i.e. major events already in place and other tours...)

Jam,

I got an email this morning inviting me to apply for membership in the IPT. It also stated that the 150 players would be selected and the $1 membership fee (yes that one dollar) would need to be paid by October 31st. If you or Keith registered on the website for updates, you'll probably be getting an email very soon. I'm not going to fill out the application because I don't need to clog their system with my lack of game :D !

Don't worry just yet. I think they're getting to it. As someone who know a little something about logistics, I can see how they're running behind if they hadn't thought through all the steps to pulling this off smoothly. If you want to call to talk, PM me for my phone numbers. Or just PM me and I'll try to answer.

See you soon!
Brian in VA

Yup - I know someone who got a response too... But it was a phone call rather than an email.
