irish linen or cortland wrap

Frankly I prefer the new stuff to the old linen. To me, the older stuff was a little more course.

Secondly, I think the new cuemakers do a better job of "pressing" it smooth.

I wonder why they don't make new stuff that looks closer to the old stuff. Most of the new stuff seems to be a color with white specks, while the old stuff tended to be white with colored specks.
 
White with green spec was the traditional combination, and earlier it was "natural". Penn and Cortland were white with green spec. It's fishing line. I believe the colors originally meant something about the test of the line (number of strands).

They do still make it in those colors I believe, it's just not popular.

The old stuff is superior IMHO, but like chalk and tips....maybe it's in the mind?

This is one of the reasons my JOSS wrap looks the way it does.

That is Cortland linen. I don't clean it (just wipe it off), and I won't replace it with anything but the same. It feels wonderful.

Cue makers still have it, but it is expensive, and they don't just throw it on any cue as far as I know. I think I saw a 1 pound roll of Cortland for sale for something close to a grand a while back.
