Irish Linen sources

I have been searching for a resource of Irish linen but have not been able to find any, so far. I know the custom pool suppliers like Atlas etc have some but I would like to have the direct link to a supplier here in Europe.
Is there anyone who can reveal their sources?

At the risk of being a wise-guy, didn't Irish linen originate in Ireland? And isn't Ireland part of Europe? If you're looking for a source, I'd say that's it.

Atlas, Prather and a few select others are the traditional sources of the linen that we use. I don't know any CM that buys directly from the manufacturer. The two manufacturers that I'm aware of are both handled by Atlas; 'Genuine' Irish Linen & 'Hurlbert'. Prather carries some rather interesting non-traditional colors that you might want to take a look at.

Prather; http://www.prathercue.com/

He he he. Well, of course it?s made in Irland and I have looked closely on shops over there. However it seems like it?s mostly already made stuff available, like kitchen napkins etc. But I?ll do some request and see how it goes.

Irish linen

I had found Hurlbert web site at one time, but can't find it now. Think they were somewhere in New England area. Trouble was you had to buy a case of it. I think you will find that true with most of the manufacters, they only want to deal with distributors, not ones buyerr.

So true, I talked to Blue Mountain who makes what is marketed
as 'true' Irish linen<they are in Tenn, or Ark?> something like 15+
years ago. You had to buy something like 20? lbs/spools per color.

I spoke with them 2 years ago, and they had a 50 pound minimum. I believe they are located in Framingham, MA.

i looked into the irish linen market very thoughly about a year ago after lots of looking and calls i passed buying a min of 20 rols per color it was like 30.00 a roll not really worth it for me several companies that made it have closed in the past 3 years

Thank?s friends. If I manage to get my hands on something I?ll post a update and let all of us know.

Hurlbert's looks like it's about 15 minutes from my house. Maybe I'll stop by the office and see what I can come up with. Maybe a visit in person will get better results than a phone call.

Thank's. I did a quick google check and found the same address. It looked pretty good. I have however not managed to contact them yet.

Tony - please post if you have any good luck with the them.

I'm in Norway and have just started the humble learning curve of cuemaking and doing so I would like to start at cue repair. I know many who need new wraps so linen and leather wrap is something I would be practicing "installing" on a old wreck of a Fury I have lying :)

Maybe you can clarify. I heard they actually don't manufacture the product!

Blue Mountain went out of business and they had a 40 pound per color minimum order. I used to sell it until they went out. Once I got down to aq few spools of black with white spec I said thats it those are mine. Not selling anymore. Someone else bought Blue Mountain out and they continued making Irish Linen but I never tried any of the new companies.

Back many years ago before Blue Mountain took over making Irish Linen here in the Southeast USA, there was a company called Wolf Hound Thread Company in Belfast, Ireland that made the thinner Irish Linen. Their logo came on every spool, but there was no phone number or address other than Belfast, Ireland. It always said Genuine Irish Linen on the label also.

I'm going to drop by Monday. Planned to yesterday, but got to be too late and I had a closing I had to do. I'll let you know what I find out.

I stopped by this morning but the owner wasn't in. He actually lives in my town. I spoke to the woman there and she thinks he may be willing to sell to me, but it has to be purchased by the case (25 1 lb Rolls). It sounds like the price per roll will be very reasonable, but I don't have an exact price yet. The Owner will call me back when he's in, so I suspect after the holiday.

If there's enough interest, I can go ahead and order a case and share the savings. I will post a price once I hear back from them.

This would be for Black with White specs or plain black. She wasn't sure what other colors are still being made because some of the places that make the dyes have gone out of business.

Generous of you to go through the hassle Tony. Let me know what is available. Maybe the owner will let you split a case and you can get two colors instead of one. Do they actually manufacture on site or is the linen now made by woo chee chong? Martin

I was going to ask about splitting the case when I speak with him. It is not manufactured here. I'm not sure where it is.

I spoke with the owner today. He will sell me a case, but it all has to be the same color and primarily blacks and whites. The price would be a substantial savings per roll, but I'm not sure if there will be enough interest to make it worthwhile.

If you have any interest in a roll or two, let me know and I will let you know what the cost is. I'll need to get at interest in at least 20 rolls before I'll make a purchase.

I guess black with white specs would be the most common choice, so I'll start with that color. If there's enough interest, we can order other colors as well.
