A major event must be agreed by national and world governing bodies first. Must also be committed to paying the price fund. They must study which countries can do this without fail. One must be in China and another in Japan. One in Europe and another in America? And also which game to be played in the majors, 9ball? 10? 8? 14.1? 1P? Rotation? Although 9 ball is top, 10 ball is close. So the rest could be in a semi major. US Open 9ball should be restructured and pay the players first before going back as a major. Also majors should have a minimum payouts. Now since I cannot see anything close, (aside from China and Japan) it will be just another open tournament.

You make a point but, if were a pool player needing to play I probably wouldnt run a tour per say but I would get several of my buddies together and throw events at Pool Rooms, get vendors, do play the pro matches, I sure wouldnt let the lack of events make me unemployed. I would do something that made money and I would play.

what you're missing, is that for the mostpart, they can't get their shit together to do this. and/or they rely on others to do it for them, gratis.
how many of them are savvy enough to even promote themselves on AZB - to interact with their paying fan base????

Pink, its true and its sad but there is a certain level of negativity here that the very thing you mention might actually be a part of. I have a hard time sometimes seeing the interaction that CSI has with the haters, its amazing to me they have consistently stayed in touch with the base and alway risen above the melee.

And they don't even do that. If I'm not mistaken they simply sanction an event but they aren't the ones who "put it on".
the Truth hurts. people herein can hold their own. why can't the pros & promoters & sponsors/vendors do the same? Mark Griffin & Jay Helfert manage to command respect.
i find the list of tourneys interesting - what's the ratio of Asian, vs Europe, vs US for 2015? and how does this stat compare to 2014 & 2013 year's ratio? are more tourneys moving to Asia? are we no longer their target audience?
I havent kept up with it much cause I was working a lot but I would say that its evident Chinese 8 ball is getting attention and we lost Tunica from what I understand. A few years back we lost the Seminole Pro Tour. I would about bet though that some of these local events are filling a lot of gaps like Smoky Mtn Shootout and ones like it in other states.

Yeah I agree, it really seems like something is wrong with the whole makeup of events. You have to rent tables, you have to rent seating, you have to rent a place to have it, its absolutely a nightmare, I know Ive tried to put an event together, its a charity thing Im telling you not a business.

336Robin...Don't mistake "haters" for people who live in reality, and who don't expect "something for nothing" (as some of the pro players do). MG's focus is on amateur pool, not professional pool...as it should be. Amateurs are his target market and bread and butter. There is plenty of money to be made as a professional pool player...it's just not in competition. People have paid, and paid well, to be entertained, throughout history. The real money to be made in pool is either as an entertainer or an instructor...I do both, and have done so successfully for more than 2 decades. :grin:

One thing that I always wondered, I see a few pros come through our area about one maybe twice a year and they do the Play the Pro thing and in the course of night put back 3 to 4 hundred. I guess I always wondered why I dont see that more. It kind of goes with your post and it would make a lot of sense. I know if I were a pro, nothing would keep me from doing the same.
Congradulations on a couple of decades of instructing. Sounds like youve had a fulfilling career.
Yes MG does have a business to run and I guess promoting events is an important part of what he does but he really puts on quite a show, you have to hand that to him. Were that not a part of his business model Im not sure where pro pool would be. I really dont know how anyone except Alan Hopkins makes the numbers work, like I said its a crazy business getting something like that to break even.
