Is being a known player a bad thing?

Sometimes people can't see the forest, but for the trees. When pros don't hit the mark at various events, suddenly there's a slew of opinions as to why, many times degrading the pool player. These result pickers just don't get it!

Players that hide who they are and how well they play do it for one reason - to deceive.

St Louie Roberts was not the only one who would proclaim himself when he hit a town. Scotty Townsend has been known to walk into pool rooms and say, "I am the best there is and if you don't believe it, bet something." I know a player who went on the road with Scotty who did not play any where near Scotty's speed, but said he wound up winning the team most of the money once everyone was scared off by Scotty power stroking balls in showing he indeed was incredibly good. Some want to prove they are the best to feed their egos and others want to lay down and hustle to feed their greed. Two different types indeed.

That's a rediculous thing to say. I have seen her play many times. I would wager that if she were standing next to a table asking YOU to play .........100$ a rack, you would find an excuse not to play.

Damn forums, everybody's a world beater on paper............

If you would have read what I said you would see that I did not say she was that type of player.I said there are a lot of them out there and she probly knows what Im talking about.as far as the $100.00 go's I noticed you mentioned her and not yourself

Come on, pay $75.00 to the bca and your a "PRO" player,.most people become pro players because they want to say" hey look at me Im a PRO"...most pros are unknown unless they go around telling everybody, cause most of them suck!! Most pro players wont play for $100.00 a game let alone $500.00..they want to play a trouny that cost more to enter they they will ever win..not to say you are one of these types of "PROS". Im sure your not,..but you know there are a lot of them out there

Obviously you don't know how difficult it is to become a "touring pro" on the WPBA. Maybe you should do your homework before coming to the forum and making ridiculous statements such as "pay $75 to the BCA and you're a pro player." That's not how it works!

not another

Nobody I have ever met has become a professional player by paying $75 to the BCA. If you know something we don't, fill us in on this BCA Professional Player Program because I have never heard of it. Most of us spent years scraping money together, working our tails off and competing in satellite events and regional tours. Its not an easy road to get there, and once you do there's an even bigger struggle to stay there. The fact that you discount the hard work and dedication required of attaining pro status shows how much you really know about the subject.

Yes, Scott. I do know. I spent several years as a semi-pro trying to obtain touring pro status and spent alot of time and money winning state championshiops and qualifiers to even allow me to compete on the pro tour. Once I reached a pro tourney, then I had to finish in the top half of the field 4 consecutive times. When someone makes a remark as you, I do take it personal because I know how difficult it is to become a pro player. It's not as simple as paying your annual membership fee and it ruffles my feathers when someone states otherwise.

To vapoolplayer - The St. Louie, Louie-OHB Poster

vapoolplayer - You Said,
have you thought about writing a book ohb? seems like it would be a good read. also, how big are the posters blown up to? when you get back from the dcc if you have some left i'll probably get one. i'll have to have it shipped as i won't be down in louisville.

Yes, I have thought about writing a book and started to one time with a professional writer from Washington University. He said he was going to tape my conversations and turn it into a book. He started to ask questions all about gambling, how point spreads are decided, etc. I stopped the interview and never let him return.

The St. Louie, Louie-OHB Poster is 36" X 36".
Just send me a PM and I will send one to you for $85. It is MUCH easier & cheaper for me to just send the Poster in a tube to you and you can go to Kinko's and have it laminated, put on foam board & framed for about $44.
It is supposed to go up on eBay next week and the auction will start at $100.

TY & GL
