Is changing butt weight will change cue balance?

Hello
yesterday my friend was very unfatisfied with his Schon LTD+OB1 shaft, cue become to heavy with this shaft(overall Schon weight with original cue is 21)and he couldent hit as he wanted to.I grabed his cue and i had to admit that this lies very strange in my hand too.I switched OB1 to Mezz HYbrid shaft(a lot heavier shaft than OB1) but cue was still off balance for me and for him also. This Schon is very heavy on end of the butt, even putting heavier shaft didnt solve this problem. On the other hand,i let him play one set with mine mid 80's Joss butt, and Allelujah,he played a lot better and totally suprised about that.Joss i a lot more"neutral" with hit,you dont have to "push" cue to stroke, unlike with Schon.
So HIS question is,changing butt weight via bolt, will affect cue balance or not,if it will change is it possible to predict how its gonna change?More to the front or even further to the rear.
He is tinking about trading his LTD Schon to some nice Joss cue/butt.
Fell free to offer a trade or sell me weight bolt to Schon

YOu bet it will. Might make it unbearable for you. Mioght make it perfect.

More weight= more change. I wouldn't expect the cue to feel near the same After a .5oz +/- change.

Edit: fizzzfirst.

When you change the weight bolt or remove it, the balance will change, so will the overall weight. If the weight bolt removed weighs X ounces, is replaced with a bolt weighing X- ounces... the balance will move forward & the cue will be lighter.

It's just opposite, if you install a bolt weighing X+ ounces, plus the cue will weigh more.

It is all simple mathematics.

Yes it will give it more forward balance, which is usually a good thing.
The ob1 is lighter than the original shaft. Taking weight out of the butt should bring the balance point back around where it was.
It is also possible that more weight was added to the butt to make it a 21.
I don't think many schons are that heavy naturally.

the best option

Just in case you like the ob-1,buy the whole cue(danny janes is the maker of the ob-1 cues, hense the reason the ob-1,feels better on the joss. Call koinnkid, troy , If the schon is in good condition, he might trade -mark

My understanding is that it is possible to add/remove weight and maintain balance. The weight changes have to be in BOTH the shaft and the butt! Has anyone ever seen a weight bolt/screw in the shaft? Seems it would be possible with a small steel allen head type screw. Would be a nice feature eh? Adjusting up or down a couple of ounces would be a reasonable range. Maybe start with 19 as neutral...then adjustable 1oz up or down using 2 weights. If a cue maker uses my idea..you owe me the first prototype as royalty payment :-)

Of course changing the weight in the butt will change the cue's balance: adding weight in the butt will make it feel more butt-heavy and reducing weight in the butt will make it feel more front-heavy. Isn't this obvious?

Schon's are great cues, in fact I would have to say in my opinion they are the caddalac of all production cues. However, depending upon materials and the player using the cue some cues are not for everyone. However, do not be deceived, NO TWO CUES HIT ALIKE EVEN IF THEY ARE THE SAME MODEL. Do not get the impression that all Joss cues are going to hit as well as the one he tried, because they will not and that is for certain.

Both models can easily have the weight adjusted in most cases, but this can depend upon the type of wood used to build the cue, and if the cue has been cored with a lighter wood.

Before I would sell or trade the Schon cue I would certainly change the cues weight, then if it still is not to his liking certainly find something that is.

thx for the replays,i know it obvoius that changing the balance, but if this screw is long and thin it will affect balance a bit less than thick and short screw right?cue have maple above the wrap and ebony+lots of ivory at the bottom, its also have influence on balance, ebony is heavier, right? If the screw is in the middle of the butt(it looks like)balance will change just a little i think, with screw in far end of the things would be a lot different .Im aware that almost every cue hits different, but i had meny Joss cues in my hand and they have diggerent stiffnes etc. but they go to the stroke almost the same.
ANother problem is that Schon weight bolt is glued into the butt and has to heated before someone will try to remove it,i know its not so easy to do.If you want to change weight in Schon ,you have to send this cue to them.
Its not so bad if you live in US but as polish citizen, its a bit difficult:P

Take a soldering iron and touch it to the weight bolt until gets hot enough to melt the glue. Be careful and watch the surrounding material and the finish on the butt so no damage is done. It may take awhile to get it hot enough to remove the bolt, but it will work. I have done it many times without a problem, not only to Schons but also Heubler and other cues.

Good Luck.
