Is it a shame?

I guess I don't want to hurt someone that I consider a friend, but I have to say I think it is a bit of a shame how things have turned out for Ron Dobosenski. I haven't spoken to him for probably a decade or more. but back in the 80's and 90's, he was a top player in Wisconsin and recognized as being pretty strong by people across the country. He did some instructing too. I was always impressed because he had a wife and family and a good career. I can't remember exactly what the career was, but I think it was the post office. Not many top players that are also family men and have good careers.

Then he decides to buy the Green Room in Madison and become a pool room proprietor. I remember at the time I thought this was a risky endeavor and I hoped it would work out. I did not have a lot of confidence that Ron had the people skills, or the following in Madison, to ensure this would work out. Later Ron "traded up" to the multi-million dollar Blue Chalk Club, and in less than a year that was out of business. Looking on the Wisconsin Simple Case Search (really a neat site to keep up on Wisconsin Court Cases) I see he lost a 6 figure judgement to Jerry Briesath (The Green Room owner before Ron).

I don't really know how Ron is doing right now but it doesn't seem to be too good. I can't help but wonder if he wouldn't have been better off sticking with his previous career and continuing to treat pool as a hobby.

Oh well.

I'm sorry to hear that. Nice guy and a very good player. I bought most of the tables that had been in the Green Room. All I heard was that Ron had owned the place previously. I knew nothing about any dispute with Jerry.

Jay and Ed...Out of respect for Jerry, I won't go into the details, but I can tell you for a fact, that Ron screwed Jerry out of several thousand dollars, when they did the original deal. On top of that, after telling Jerry that it was fine to keep doing his pool school there, he reneged, and Jerry moved it back to Cuenique. I imagine the 'suit' and 'settlement' were probably part of Ron not making good on the contract with Jerry. Jerry is a totally upfront and honest man, who has never screwed ANYONE in his entire life! He is one of the most upstanding people in our industry! All I know personally about Ron Dobosenski is what I learned from Jerry, and heard from other patrons of Ron's room (after he bought it from Jerry).
