Is it safe. If you are the new guy in the bar. Just beat the house player out of a few bucks. And you are going to the bathroom. Then no. If you are the only gay guy in a straight bar then no. Of you are the only yankee in a bar in the south then no. If you think your cues are going to warp by laying them on the table. Then take 2 weeks off then quit
 
If it is your home table and you don't think anyone will mess with it then it is okay.
 
I think the OP is asking, is it safe to lay them down flat on a table... because of the "chance" they will warp.

there are those that claim that it is bad to do............. I have always left my cue laying on the table or leaning against the wall.............. haven't had anything warp in 30 years....

A big change in humidity will warp a cue so keep it in the house and not in your car or a damp basement.
