Is it Time to get Mainstream Media Involved?

I have to say, I have not commented much on any of the IPT mess, cause the whole thing just breaks my heart. Like everyone here I had high hopes that this might finally be the thing that takes our sport to the next level. And there is still a part of me that wants it to work out...but with the ever changing choreography of Kevin's quick step...I have lost hope.

I think what happened, was KT got really greedy, when he saw the huge response to the original Tour Card Qualifiers. I do not believe he or anyone expected that so many players would plunk down 2 grand, with no pay-out other than the Card. Remember originally, they held those events saying no matter how many players showed up, 2 cards would be awarded. I think that is because they expected a small turnout. When something like 70 showed up for the Hard Times event, I think he thought he had found a potential gold mind...

but he way over estimated how far players would go...

I think he thought he could finance the tour and maybe even profit with more Qualifiers but soon learned that far fewer were willing to spend the big bucks just to win a chance to win a tour card. (Had they just allowed any player wiling to pay 2000.00 to enter the Wynn Tour Card event, I think they would have been very successful)...

It all has the earmarks of a pyramid scheme....

With the ever changing stories over the checks, from Fed Ex being late,
to Ho, to now Bush of all things...he is just dancing...
and I think it is time to alert the major media to what is going on! I would start with the guy at Sports Illustrated...who did the Kid Delicious piece. He might like to know what is going on...and didn't 20-20 do something on KT? I think it is time for a follow up...

I think you are so very right.
60 Minutes and 20-20 are going to have to be flooded with e-mails in order for this to happen though. They want an audience. That is how they make a living.

We all have to be a voice though. We can't just sit back and depend on Eydie and Cue Dude and their platoon to make all the racket. They are doing a hell of a job, but, it takes many.

Yes they did, shortly before the KOTH in Orlando last year. They even made mention of the IPT. Considering they didn't portray KT in a very good light back then, I would assume they would be interested to hear how his IPT endeavors have turned out....

Just my personal thoughts:

As long as the players keep showing KT that they are willing to accept his abuse and bs by not fully and agressively pursuing all of their options, including closing down the tour by forcing him into bankruptsy, he will continue taking advantage and abusing them.

I don't believe that KT has any respect for the players, or their representatives, and utilizing every option and advantage, including the press, to gain what they are rightfully entitled to should have always been the strategy, imo.

Itd be great if someone had photos of the IPT office location.

KT innovating pool. Instead of collecting everyones money and redistributing it. He will take the profits he made, pay all "expenses of running the IPT" did he mention $1million for food and whatever is left pay players.

Someone told me he might have taken his cut a little early. Without any formal complaints filed KT capriciously sends out payment for less than anticipated.

Now the question is how are these funds getting to his account. If there was no money to begin with how is there money now. Since he cancelled IPT events no new money is obvious and DVD sales/membership, lets be real.

EDIT: white collar criminals are the scum level of the food chain, there is worse not by much.

What about "Natural Cures"? Is the Natural Cures company actually "paying" the IPT for all the advertising that the IPT is doing for them? If not, then the increased Natural Cures sales could be a way that KT is getting some profit out of the IPT. I'm not sure if that's significant or not, and I don't know if this has been discussed yet. Has it?

Timberly,
Do you remember who did the reporting? I think considering the controversy already surronding KT...it would not take all that much to get them interested in a follow up?

I guess I just still hope there is a chance he will come through!

By the way did anyone ever see the Mad TV skit making fun of KT?

I would like to here the advice of the "Harvard educated" attorneys that Eydie mentioned in another thread before alerting the mainstream media. IMHO

Maybe he wants the exposure! Careful you may be fueling a fire that KT wants! Don't you think he has some pretty good lawyers on his side as well! Most of the pool world is full of hustlers and professional criminals! Why is this any different? You all seem so surprised!!! We all hoped the IPT would bring pool out of the dark ages of matching up with drug dealers and book makers and the terrible art of survival. All for the love of the game! Maybe someday! Until then I guess you gotta do what you gotta do!

I think it was Nightline, not 20/20. Right after Ted left.

EDIT: My bad. They showed the 20/20 thing on Nightline, where I caught it.

BE CAREFUL ON THIS MEDIA PUSH!

It might turn out that the story-angle they end up with goes something like this:

"The pool world's hustlers and professional criminals have had the tables turned on themselves! They finally met KT, who cleverly out-hustled them!. Poetic justice."

Don't take me wrong.

I live for pool, and love the game. But our reputation, like it or not, is a fact of life. The media groups want a story that sells to the world outside of pool; they will not necessarily carry the poolplayers torch. It well could backfire.

All PR is good PR, that's my lesson learnt after 10 years in politics ;)

So I believe the PR will be good for both KT, NaturalCures, IPT and Poolplayers!

Yeah right...

Trust me, that kind of twist is exactly what I would expect, "The Hustlers Get Hustled.." or something like that...

The Media is nothing, if not redundant and it is likely some will have little sympathy for the pool world & it's players.

I am still waiting to see what happens...I guess I still have a small ray of hope that things will turn around and KT will come through.

But if it all goes in the trash ::knocks wood::...I will send out a few emails, I think it more important to expose all this than to worry what the rest of the world thinks.
