I've been talking to this guy and he has a Paul Dayton cue with 2 shafts that he is selling and willing to trade for a Meucci. What do you guys think? Should I take the trade?

His cue: Paul Dayton
The Dayton is a 19oz cue with Mostly Ebony wood.
It has a leather wrap with two maple shafts.
The ends on the cue are white I don't know what that is made of.
It has this unicorn style joint for quick setup.
**At the end of the cue there are two small dots where lacquer came off. And my last name was put on one of the shafts but can be easily sanded off.

Here are the pictures of his cues:

My cue(the one in the center):
Meucci 95-17
Straight and True
4 points
MOP inlays
Ebony
No dot shaft.

Is That A Meucci Original Or Just A 80's Meucci ?

It's a Meucci 95-17. I believe it's a 90's. Hence 95.

This cue was a tribute/remake of The Original Oldie O-1.

I SURE SOMEONE ELSE HERE KNOWS PAUL DAYTONS WORK WELL, BUT TO ME ITS A NO BRAINER AT LEAST IN THE SENSE YOUR GOING FROM A PRODUCTION CUE TO A FANTASTIC CUSTOM CUE!!!!!!!! ID MAKE THAT TRADE!!!! BUT THATS JUST ME!!!!

Paul makes a great cue!, However, this perticular one, I'm not that fond of. If it were me. I'd keep the Moochi on this one. JMO

I don't think thats just you mate. Its you, me and everyone else who can hold a cue.

DO THE DEAL NOW!!!!!!!!!

Paul Dayton makes a great cue.
There are no CNC machines in his shop last I heard and any inlay work is manually cut out by hand.
Saw one cue where all the work was completed by exacto knives and razors...Beautiful and precision cuts.
Take a look at these pictures of the Labor Of Love by Paul Dayton.

Good luck with your decision.

I paid $150 for the Meucci a year or 2 back. This Dayton Cue the guy is asking for $500 or trade with my Meucci. He's throwing in the case and JP's. I think it's a deal on my part nonetheless, but....ahhh.....!!

Anyone want to buy it? If I get it?

Couple more pictures he sent me.

WOW, that is sick sick skills. I love it because of the fact that he hand inlays. That's old school and how cues should be made, IMO.

I just emailed the seller and asked him to go shoot a few racks at a local pool hall and check out as well as play with each others cues.

I am sure he would appreciate the kind words if he were to read your comment.
Paul is a great guy and his cues do play pretty well.
But be sure to test it out since shaft stiffness, cues and balance points may not always be agreeable to all players.

Enjoy,

Thank you Myron, I will inspect and shoot with the Daton cue throughly and roll in on the table flush and roll it with the butt on the rail. If the deal falls through and it's a good hitter, I can benefit.

I dont believe thats quite true now, maybe a few years ago.

The courteous thing to do would be to delete your posts in the two other duplicate threads. This way there is not 3 different threads with the same thing.

I'd agree that if the Dayton is not messed up, I'd do the deal in a minute. While that Meucci was worth a bit if it was the MO, its hard to get rid of nowadays with it being a newer model even though its a sharp ass cue.

Of course I CANT see the pics of the Dayton that well. He is a well known cuemaker IMO, and would be worth it if you liked the style and hit. Should be much stiffer than the Meucci.

I just came back from shooting 9 ball with the guy who has the Dayton Cue.

1. It had 4-5 nice Knicks/chip on it. One was over the wrap about 1/8 in size and the others were on the butt sleeve probably accidently striking tables and chairs.

2. Both shaft together and apart are straight.
3. Leather wrap is decent and still good and nice.

4. Shoots solid.

5. One shaft, above the collar, has his last name "Gonzales" on it in small block letters with clear coat over it. 6. JP's were matching and nice.

Just of the fact that there were 4-5 decent size knicks on the cue, I didn't trade it. I really like the hit and feel of that Dayton cue, but the chip/knicks would haunt me while iw was shooting. While he was using my meucci , he managed to bang it against the stool twice. So, I stopped and said, well, thank you for your time. I paid for the table time since he didn't have money.

Just my opinion if the cues clear is just dinged I probably would still do the trade and refinish it. However it comes to the question will you be happy with the Dayton. If not dont look back keep your cue. Here is how I look at it although I am partial to my cues if your not happy with any cue or do not think you would be happy with it, its a no brainer. Keep or get a cue you will be truely happy with. Pool is mental, if your not happy with your equipment I think you will not play to your full potential. Just My $.02 .

The guy really liked my Meucci because he said he used to play with his good friends in Japan and it just reminds him of the good times. He really wanted to trade, and I knew that I would be getting a deal.

It would be a great deal on my part.
2 Shafts Paul Dayton for my $150 I paid for Meucci 95-17.

He lives 10 minutes from me, I still have his number and I bet if I call him back, he would jump at the trade. Man, this is very tempting.

If it were me I would trade however your not me. Just make sure your happy with the trade. In any case you could sell the dayton and buy another cue if you did not like it. I am a little biased I like custom cues I build custom cues. Anyhow good luck in your decision making :)
