Is Oliver Ortmann a HOFer?

Have you got more infos about this tournament?

Parica told me a few years ago about this tournament. He said it was the first ever World Cup of Pool or World Pool Masters ( I can't quite remember which one he said it was). But it was called something else in its 1st year in existince.

The tournament Jose is speaking about occurred in Japan. It was pre-Matchroom Sport era.

John won master of table at DCC and was runner up the next year....

Parica isn't in HOF??? That's unreal.... You guys remember the 900+ man tourney he snapped off in japan in late 80's??? Paid like 5 milliion yen... Beat efren in finals.... Imagine the venue, how did they run that thing???

Yes on Ortmann btw....

Pulled info from that tourney off his wiki page below.....

Parica had won close to one hundred tournaments in the U.S., thirteen in Japan, and three in the Philippines (the 1980, 1989 and 1992 Philippine Nine-ball Open Championships). In 1988, Parica dominated the Japanese circuit, winning eight of the nine tournaments he competed in, and placing 2nd in the other. That same year, he won the World Pro Tournament, the biggest and richest tournament in that time, by beating arch-rival Reyes 9-3 in the finals. The tournament was played in Tokyo and had 900 players. Parica earned the first prize of ¥5M. That year, Parica had total winnings of $289K.

Parica achieved one of the most revered records in pool, and was the only player to win a perfect run out match of nine-ball under race-to-11 format without misses or fouls.

I was watching a few matches of Oliver. I can't think of anyone else that has a nickname that suits their bstyle of play like "The Machine." I went to his wikipedia page and saw an impressive resume. He is a World Champion in 9ball and 14.1 and he also has numerous other titles. I think he has enough titles titles to earn his entry into the BCA HOF. What do you guys think?

Ortmann has been my favorite European player for some time now. I also really like Ralf Souquet, Thomas Engert & Alex Lely. Great players, great gentlemen.

Ortmann's credentials are already superior to several players who are already enshrined in the BCA H.O.F.

Here's a thread from a few years back that is in line with this thread.....

There are a lot for very good players now and over past years. I think the HOF has to be something more special then having won some tournaments. This is not meant to degenerate his skills but the list of players who are not in the HOF and maybe should be would be very long before Ortmann's name would appear in my opinion.
HOF can't be thrown around so freely, it is something very special.

Very respectfully disagree.

Ortmann has won far more tournaments than some people who are already enshrined.
If the H.O.F. is not for great players who've won major championships, then what would it be?

I believe Ortmann is "very special" player, well deserving of induction.

Since the BCA is so generous to our European bretheren of players, admitting them into the BCA Hall of Fame, giving European players a green light to shoot pool in China on a BCA ticket, I am curious what the EPBF has done for American players. It would be interesting to learn. :)

Very good points.

I hold their federation accountable for that, not the players. As for our "BCA", I have some strong and very negative opinions on the way they've treated the pro players here.

Wasn't Jose already inducted into the HOF? If not it's long overdue for him...
Parica is in the One Pocket Hall of Fame, but it seems he continues to fall victim to Efren's shadow regarding the BCA HOF -- he definitely deserves in.

Do you suppose the BCA is suffering a little identity crisis regarding whether it is an American pool/billiards HOF or an international cue sports HOF?

Based on their choices in the past, they certainly have been an American cue sports HOF, but.... if you read their criteria, it actually does not say anything about "America" -- except as in the "A" in the BCA.

So what is it? If international, you have to wonder where are the English snooker greats like Steve Davis and 3-c greats like Blomdahl and old time legends like the Australian Lindstrum -- or how about the dude that invented the leather tip, and consequently, modern "english"?

Cuelemans is the lone major euro-centered star I see on their list

Seems like an identity crisis to me...

I apologize in advance for any spelling mistakes with names of these greats.

Ortmann definitely deserves to be in the HOF. He's been a monster player for 25 years. He's an incredible shotmaker, truly creative, fearless and rock-solid under the most intense tournament pressure. Simply a great all around player.

Whoever said Oliver has great fundamentals must see a different Ortmann than I've watched over the years. His plane alignment was always poor, but since he has had to accommodate his shoulder injury, his mechanics are even worse. However, to his great credit, he has found a way to make the cue go straight, despite his awkward form.

Parica should be in the HOF. No brainer. When he would come to NYC, no one lined up to play him. LOL

Jeanette has won close to 20 WPBA titles and she spent about ten consecutive years ranked in the top 5 of the WPBA at one point. Also, she has won multiple Amway Cups, was the gold medalist at the World Games, and has won several Challenge of Champion events. She is (along with Jean Balukas, Ruth McGuiness, Dorothy Wise, and Jasmin Ouschan) one of the five best female straight pool players of all time.

..... but to you, she's not even worthy of consideration. Go figure.

Definitely worthy. And up until this coming year, she hadn't been qualified under the current rules. I believe she just turned the big 4-0.

Which brings up another topic... since the HoF for pool isn't objective like the LPGA, should a current player be considered for the HoF? I don't think so, but them's the rules, so I vote by the rules.
