In your opinion, which game is tougher to "master" or get extremely good at? I am very curious about other people's viewpoints on this.Thanks...P.S.---Don't hesitate to explain the reasons for your answer

I voted golf because I can't play golf in my garage for hours at a time.

P.S.
It doesn't cost 60 bucks to do so either

Yeah, but you had to shell out $ for a decent table, and a good cue can easily cost as much as an entire set of clubs.;)

2-3 years ago when I was writing a lot I wanted to do an article on golf vs pool. For 6 months I paid $75 for 30minutes of golf lessons twice a week. Both sports are tough and require a lot of disipline but I had a much tougher time with golf. Both sports are also a lot of fun:) . What I would give to be good at either of em;) .

Nice argument, come talk to me when you can find a set of clubs that play as well as a brand new Players sneaky pete for the same price. Then hand that brand new $40ish dollar set to Tiger, and $40ish sneaky to any # of Wolrd Class pool players and tell me which one does better with what.

Now the table thing is the KEY!!! You can buy a table that was used for the US OPEN in pool for much less than buying a course that was used for the US OPEN in golf. But, I can also go to my local golf learning center and practice for hours on end on the chipping and putting greens for FREE, and for some reason my local pool hall charges me to bang balls around....hmmm.

I'm just stating these things to state them, of course...both are INCREDIBLY difficult to play at a top level. So, my answer from now on to this question is WHO CARES....play 'em both, and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!

I would bet that Tiger could do WAY better with the $40 set of clubs on a pool table than the World Class Pool Player could do with the $40 cue on a golf course- no contest.:p

golf or pool

I play both above average, much better at pool. GOLF is much harder. Pool is played within a 41/2 x 9 foot area. A golf hole may be 1/2 acre to 2 acres for 1 hole, think of the varables, how far out of line you can get there. And the money, 150000 plus people pay 50 to 100++ just to get on the golf course for 1 day to watch. Try to get 5000 people around 1 pool table paying 20 dollars each, I dont know if this has ever been done. We are talking about Apples and Prime Rib here, and I love them both.

I play both, average at best... Both at scratch golf or pool require the same concentration skills and both for a run of a cluster of balls or the proper angle to attack a pin require the ability to picture the shots in your "minds eye" then execute...
Personally "golf" is harder to maintain below a "5.0" handicap index because of the time involved for me to get to the range, or practice greeen...
Pool gets 3-4 hours a day rain or shine...
However, as time shows and practice shows, I will never get to be much more than a "duffer" at either one...:D

i'd say pool is harder.

but the issue is irrelevant anyway because whether a sport is harder or not doesn't determine whether it's actually any good.

pool is a better game and that's all that matters, even if it is slightly easier.

Do you golf?? If not go grab some clubs, and several balls and try your luck at a 470 yd par 4 with a 25 mph wind directly in your face....Golf is a much tougher game...IMO

The top golfers are such pampered millionaires that I can't find it in me to say that I think golf is a harder sport to play well. Pool comes pretty easy once you get proficient, but I've always wanted to be a pool player. I don't golf because when I was growing up, I nor anybody I hung around with would ever be allowed to play on a golf course  , even if we could have somehow come up with the money to play.
I have never tasted caviar, never been on a yacht, never had a manicure and never had a stock or bond or 401K or even a bank CD. So what would I know about golf?

If I was equally skilled at both sports and had a chance to enter a golf tournament that paid $1,000.00 for first place, OR, enter a pool tournament that paid ZERO for winning, I would still play pool 100% of the time. Promise.

That's fine and perfectly understandable Terry, but when followed by this....

If I was equally skilled at both sports and had a chance to enter a golf tournament that paid $1,000.00 for first place, OR, enter a pool tournament that paid ZERO for winning, I would still play pool 100% of the time. Promise.

........you will appreciate it invites a question.....given the first quote and given that your view/enjoyment of golf may have considerably changed during your transformation into someone who is equally skilled at them both, how could you possibly know that for sure you would still choose the pool option 100% of the time:)

This "which is harder?" question has been flogged to death on here in the last month alone and there is no definitive answer because there are no definitive terms of reference. They are very different and are both superb games in their own right, let's all just enjoy what we enjoy, be it one, the other or both:)

Golf is tougher because I can not think of a Pool player ever getting struck buy Lightning in Mid Stroke.

I picked golf. The speeds and forces involved are much greater then in pool. The movements needed for a strong accurate golf swing involve the whole body instead of just the arm. At the same time though, in pool, you can have a direct effect on what your opponent has to deal with when he gets to the table; in golf, they call that cheating. :D

you never seen a light fall on somebody whilst they're taking their shot? :P

the golf equivalent lol would be the sun caving in i suppose!

I play both games at about the same level, pool players think I play better golf, and golfers think I play better pool. The thing about golf is that unless you play all the time it is not uncommon to play terriblble and make shots so poorly that it seems like you never did play any good.
Golf can be very humiliating, and as I get older my skills are deteriorating faster than pool.
