The top golfers are such pampered millionaires that I can't find it in me to say that I think golf is a harder sport to play well. I have never tasted caviar, never been on a yacht, never had a manicure and never had a stock or bond or 401K or even a bank CD. So what would I know about golf.

C'mon, buddy. It usually looks like you think before you post, but not with this one. Maybe you were trying to be funny, but anyways.

Tell that to Boo Weekley, Woody Austin, Mark Calcevechia (sp?), just to name a few.

By a mile

Golf.

(Interesting side note: Pool was created in Europe about 200 years ago in an attempt to reduce golf to a table-sized course. Thus, the traditional green felt.)

Well put...I could probably win 1 out of 100 games against Reyes but NEVER win a single hole against tiger woods. However being a pro pool player is stressful because the paychecks could come far and few in between. You could be the 150th rank golfer in the world and still live a GREAT life but good luck if you are only the 150th ranked pool player in the world.

Just got into golf receltly and its much harder. Practicing golf is much harder physically than practing pool and dealing with the elements is also much harder. After years of walking around a pool table in an air conditioned space, whacking at a little white ball in 90 degree south texas heat and wind is much harder on me. I could play pool for 12 hours straight. After 2 hours on the driving range im completely worn out.

Oh yeah and the equipment cost for golf is ridiculous, a nice set of clubs is 1500 easily and then u gotta get accesories (hat, shoes, umbrella, balls, tees, ball retriever, divot repair, sky caddie, etc, etc). So getting started u could spend 2000 easily and you havent even got to the course yet. Pool is much cheaper. and more fun.

Golf may be a more difficult game, you vs. you; however pool is more difficult to win at (competitively).

In pool you can lose without even playing. In Golf, you always get a turn.

You must not believe in a spiteful god.

As far as OP, pool is tougher, because no matter how good you get you're never going to make any $$ playing... and that's tough. :)

When comparing the difficulty of two different sports, I think you must understand that there needs to be some kind of comparison AND test. In order to know which is more difficult, I would take a group of people who have never played either sport, and then set a goal for both pool and golf. Maybe running a number of balls in straight pool too consistency in driving and putting. Find a goal that is equivalent between both sports that means the player has reached a certain level. Which ever sport the majority of people progress in the worst is the harder sport.

Another point that I must make is that your average everyday person is better at pool than golf. This is because it is more convenient to play pool for people who are not interested in either sport. When going out to eat there may be a pool table there to pass time. Not very often does a person play golf on a night where they didn't intend to. This portrays that golf is more dificult which I don't agree with.

Hereing posts that say how the playing field is so much larger doesn't mean anything in my opinion. There are many variables for both sports that make them unique. Try hitting a golf ball with bottom left off a tree to masse around a bunker. I know that this senario doesn't mean much but it is important to understand that both sports are equally difficult in my opinion. You must set some kind of goal that means something wrather than saying "I can shoot a ball in a hole, pools easy""I can't hit a ball 300 yards straight, golfs hard". There is much more to both games that make both extremely difficult.

What do I have to shoot on the back 9?

Pool is tougher in my opinion. I am a 2 handicap and have shot as low as 67 in tournament play, but the most I have run in pool is 21. I play pool way more (in the winter) and am still an average player. Deflection, squirt, throw, inside english, outside english, dirty balls, humidity, etc...just add up to a lot of confusion in my head. Plus I believe you need to play pool more on a consistent basis to be any good. I know I can take a month off from golf and still shoot mid-70s.

What part of pool are you comparing this to? Go out and try and run 125.
