Classic 14.1 break from Jayson Shaw during the 2013 Derby City Classic Straight Pool Challenge on the 10' Diamond.
The commentator was overly critical of Jayson's pattern play , but he did get something right: he commented that Jayson is a future superstar in our sport.
Not that it was some great prognostication.

Of all of these, Jayson Shaw has won just the Turning Stone Classic and has been runner-up in the Derby City banks. In fairness, however, Jayson gets a lot of credit for his win at WPA Kuwait.
When Jayson starts collecting major titles the way Shane has, maybe we can open the discussion again, but Shane is the best player residing on American soil by a country mile.
Ken Shuman said it best during the just-completed Make It Happen event. In the player introductions when Jayson played Shane, Ken noted Jayson is having a great year, but further noted that Shane has a great year every year! That's about the size of it.

I love how many people here cannot even understand what the OP was asking. To put it simply: the question is "who's currently playing the best pool on American soil?" not who has the most achievements and titles.
So to the OP, my answer is yes, Shaw currently is on top. To the others who derailed this thread by claiming that SVB is the best judging by career achievements is a big NO. Earl the Pearl Strrrrrigland is head and shoulders above the rest, and not on American soil only.:smile:

If we go back four month ago Shane was fourth on the money list..After a little soul searching Shane decided that it wasn't the money but competing against the best that drives him to keep working hard. I believe he sets goals like keeping the US open trophy on US soil. now that Shane has won three US opens, 8-ball, 9-ball and ten-ball all this year and I believe Jayson was present at all three. Shane gets my vote for Player of theYear. plus another money title.

FWIW, Jayson was not at the US 8-ball/10-ball Championships this year.
jayson is for sure the hottest player atm and had very likely his final breakthrough but means hotter atm better overall? few weeks ago when shane won the US open again, he was the greatest on the planet, and now that jayson had a good run hes only 2nd best on american soil now! think jayson needs to proof first that hes consistently hotter than shane over a longer period......... that all goes a bit too fast, no?

Without a doubt, if we are talking form right now, Jayson is best on American soil. His win%in recent events at least 60%. In Kuwait Open 65% against strongest field .
Question is whether he can sustain this form and high level of performance . The Kuwait Open win is a major breakthrough for him and really boosted his confidence .
Shaw has got the hot hand at the moment.

... and, in my post, I called Jayson the hottest player on the planet, so I'm agreeing with you and with Morra. That said, in their most important hookup of late, Shane beat Jayson in the semifinals of the US Open despite trailing 6-0. That was just a few weeks ago.
Until Jayson bests Shane with a major title hanging in the balance, he's not in the conversation for the bizarre designation of "best player residing in America." Derby City is just two months away. Perhaps the score will be settled there.
One thing is for sure, though, we are lucky to be able to enjoy Jayson's spectacular play.
LOL - Shaw is having a great year and he is a world class player but what championship has he ever won? In the category of best player who has never won a championship I'd put him at or near the top.
