Is smoking allowed in any part of the room where u play (excluding home-tablers)?

I play at a few different rooms here in Florida. Some have gone to non-smoking after re-opening during the summer. I tolerate the smoke but it's not my preferred setting. I don't see an issue with coughing as the rooms are spread out well with good space between tables.
 
I made the mistake of agreeing to help a friend out in league without asking any particulars. All 3 "rooms" that we play in are clubs and all 3 allow smoking.

I don't like it... even a little bit.

In some states in the south it's allowed if the venue is 21+ and then it's in the hands of the owner of the business. They can allow it or not.

I know heavy smokers who won't go in some places because their ventilation system is so bad that even they can't stand it.

I heard somewhere that SVB won't play in any venue that allows smoking..... but you never know what to believe when a pool player is telling you something.

What’s great today is many of the top Snooker players are really into health and fitness: O'Sullivan, Mark Selby, Neil Robertson, etc. Gareth Potts, Chinese 8 ball champ, has fitness videos.

The Chinese Snooker Academy has has fitness on the the curriculum. Billiards is given a youthful, healthy image on The sports networks and on Popular shows: this one has 110 million viewers.

I quit smoking 65 years ago -- right after my military service ended (we all were smokers those days in the infantry). I was lucky enough to meet and become crazy about a gal who hated the smell of smokers' hair and clothing. Made quitting much easier for me than for most guys I knew.

My personal experience in the Army was that guys (myself included) coughed openly and often, especially in cold weather. It would seem to me that given the ever-present, deadly Covid respiratory threat, coughing/sneezing whether from flu, Covid infection, or secondary/primary smoke would be especially hazardous.

Your thoughts or playing situation?

Let’s see, 65 yrs. ago cigarettes were likely less than $2-a-carton at the PX. My local gas station/minimart now charges over $80. Talk about ‘sticker-shock‘!

I remember walking to the corner store in 1963 to buy my mother some cigartettes (I was 10) the cost was between $0.35 and $0.50 per pack in single pack quantities. Soda pops were $0.15 per 12 oz bottle, and candy bars were $0.05.

And in 1957, likely every gas station there still had a 10 cent soda machine & a 25 cent cigarette machine.
 
JOB's in Nashville area is a three room smoking facility with approximately 30 tables . During big tournaments, one of the three rooms is no smoking. It has a reputation as being a very smoky facility even though it is nice place overall.
 
Most, though not all, rooms around here have finally gone non-smoking. Thank God.

My room has an outdoor smoking area with a few tables and chairs for those who must. Out back, next to the dumpsters. The dumpsters help mask the cigarette smell… 😁

Back when smoking in bars/poolrooms first became a controversial health issue, proprietors were buying up any HD air-cleaning device being marketed. Many pumped out tons of ozone. The regulars soon adapted and were unbothered, but even the heavy smokers who rarely dropped in found the air there rather toxic (burning eyes).

I don't care to have my eyes burn........ my nose stuff up......... my clothes, hair and skin smell like tobacco smoke..................... let me stand up on a chair and piss on your head................ same thing............. I won't play at a pool hall that allows smoking

I have a friend that played pool since he was a young junior . He , like I , played in smoke filled rooms. In his middle 40's he was diagnosed with emphysema and COPD ! He never smoked !! Doctor said it was due to second hand smoke ! So if you think you're safe, you're not ! Some get sick, some don't . It seams to be in your genes ! Good luck
 
Before Covid, all but one of the 10 or so pool halls within 30 minutes (Clearwater) of me was smoking allowed. Many of them used the short lockdown period to switch to non-smoking. Some still haven’t switched.
