Is Southwest the best?

Well sure. But you had to be "up" to decline. I guess you could have called Laurie and asked to be taken out of the list too but I think that would be kinda weird. Better the way you did it.... My point was that she doesn't allow the transfer of spots. Frankly I wish I would have had the opportunity to get the cues from your spots... Maybe I'll get another chance someday. :)

Correct.

And I easily could have helped someone get a SW by ordering what he wanted and making a small amount, but Laurie explicity would not allow me to just give him my spot. I would have had to manage all of that transaction directly with SW, while leaving SW out of any additional side discussions. That wasn't appealing either to me.

i am willing to bet that no one here can tell the difference between a cue made before and after jerry
no looking at the pin number

a blind test i will get 20 cues
look at them hit them $10000 says you can not pick the 10 before

no one is barred

greg antinokas is not barred and he is the expert

all of these before and after people are talkers

i have owned maybe 1oo of them, jerry was a close friend of mine

toward the end he was wrapping and finishing the cues
the same people making the cues then ,are making the cues now

in my opinion they are the best
if you own a different cue ,buy a south west shaft and i bet you love it

my friend Dennis Glenn used to get south west to make the shafts for efren to play with
he bought some shafts for a Balasushka or two and praised them highly

other people make great cues, but no one has a 13 year waiting list
no one who makes 20 cues a year anyway

when dealers say over and over
no trades but south west what does that tell you?

Blly Incardona, (no rookie or foreigner to all aspect of pool )told me he liked his South West more than any cue and asked if i thought he could get another one

i said sure, they respected billy and he had been a friend,i get 2 a year and i would give him a spot

some people prefer this,some that.
but survey after survey proclaims south west the best,or favorite

the nice thing is,go ahead and buy one,i will give you a $500 profit the day you get it

some will offer $1000

who else but Barry Szamboti could do that?

truth be told there are some good copies out there, they use the same looking woods, same colors, same length ,weight, wrap but they are still not the same

not the same choice and selection,or processing
hence not the same quality

Dennis Searing is who. More profit in a Searing than any cue made - but everybody already knows that.

Here is another retarded moment of people years for a cue that plays like Shit. Like all south west cues do. Get it and s it's to esell it. The new d.esign is fat. You can build those cues 100.00 dollars and Laurie is ****ing you . Won't even use ebony as its expensive. She just recently cancelled her order with exotic hardwoods. Bought that. That's the same place Tony buy 40 year black wood that's the last he has.

It seems some of your customers are waiting years for their cues, and they are truly garbage! YOU should NEVER be allowed to use Ivory
Jason<---doesnt like how SW cues play either

Attention to detail, to include customer satisfaction, is an obsession of the SW crew

The patient customers who receive a SW cue from the shop reap a significant profit if they flip

imo they have the most stress free, customer friendly business model in the industry starting with their NO DEPOSIT policy

Until you own one you will have to trust some one else's personal opinion.

They don't have 13 year waiting list for no reason at all.

Sometimes things are popular because they are popular, if you know what I mean.

But they do shoot good. I don't think THAT good though, especially since half the time people put away the shaft and use an LD shaft with them which kills more than half the feel of the cue and how it plays vs how it looks and resale value.

It's like beanie babies or other things like that, people wanted them, so more people wanted them, and then more people wanted them because they saw that people wanted them and could resell them for a good price. I think SW cues are just about at that third stage, people want them because others want them and respect the brand, not just because they want a SW, they just heard of SW and know good players and collectors that own them.

I have not had the chance to try one and don't know anyone personally that owns one other than members here. Some members here who I have a lot of respect for say they are the best playing cue ever built. I have to imagine they do not all play the same just because wood is wood. For those that have or do play with one, please provide your opinion on playability and if you prefer another builder who it may be, only if you have experience with Southwest Cues. I love Runde cues, but also wonder if I'm missing out by not having a chance to play a Southwest?

Yes the configuration that they found works very well... and has been copied.

I have many high end cues...i.e. Szamboti, Hulsey, Sugartree, Boar and my playing cue for the moment is SW...and enjoying every time I hit whitey.

Well since l do not believe in coincidence, South West must play the best if every Major Tournament 2015 ( Men & Women ) was won with a South West!
Mens: World 9 Ball - World 10 Ball - Beijing Open - US Open 9 ball - World Cup of Pool -
Women's - China Open - Tournament of Champions - All Japan Open - Tornado Open

As for the Franklin era vs New SW, Mickey Bunker ( Jerry Franklin's Nephew ) has been there since 1985 working on the same equipment and using the same process. Al Lawrence has been there since 1989 so l think not much has changed. The wood is stored and cut the same way, with strict tolerances.
Laurie Franklin has carried the torch with class & dignity, so let's give her credit.

I play with a SW, as do both my son's. I collect many and sold many more to very happy customers.

If ANYONE reading this has a South West they Don't like, l am most likely a buyer. Also l will buy your spot in line for a generous profit if your willing.
My phone number is at the bottom.
Take care
Greg

Very accurate post, yes I also play with a Southwest and believe it's a great hitting cue. I first started playing with a Southwest when Jerry started the company and I loved the cue then-. I also have played with a Cog (Joey Gold) I played with a Cog for over 20 years and was very happy with it, however, just recently I switched back to a Southwest because I wanted to play with a cue that was a little more accurate the Southwest (imo) gives me a more accurate hit and at my age that's the difference. Both cues are great cues but I played my best pool with a Southwest.

Hi Bill,.. This is Joe's buddy "Timmy" (as Joe calls me :embarrassed2:).. Could you please share with the AZB'ers what you mean by "accurate" hit.

I'm sure you're response will have a profound "E. F. Hutton" effect..:)

Bill it is nice to hear a really good player like yourself has similar(could say identical) tastes in cues. I have bought and sold many cues from almost every cuemaker out there. To me southwest cues are the best playing cues(for me) that money can buy.right behind them is joey gold"cogs" and even though they look nothing alike(styles, design) they hit and play so close that if a person is asking me my personal preference on hit, playability, my answer would be southwest first with cogs , Larry vigus(code63 here on azb) and rick howards all playing similarly right behind southwest.

Southwest is the best and the moon is flat.

I have a brand new Jeep Limited; it's the best.

I bought a brand new pair of Nunn Bush Portage Shoes; they are the best.

I have the best wife, kids, dogs, lawn, friends, and family….THE BEST

I take the best poops on earth, I don't even have to wipe…. THE BEST

I ran 130 with an old dufferin house cue, hand sanded the splinters smooth, rock hard tip, I was 16, I'm better than the best.

All my cues Hit A Ton, Real Players,Incredible Feedback, my cue ball dances like Usher and Baryshnikov on steroids; they are so accurate I think they have hidden Lasers, its scary... EVERYONE SAYS THEY ARE THE BEST, they are.

Imagine If Earl, Allison and Shane used a Southwest, they never would have lost a match, those poor saps using those over the counter cuetecs.
Willie could run a 1000 with a Southwest, he told me himself, believe it.

You can get use to playing with anything; players have been doing it since the beginning of life.

You can talk yourself into anything if you believe it; it's true I read it on the internet.
.
I had a beautiful Frank Paradise Titlist, hated it, hit like crap to me, the guy I sold it to loves it.

Southwest to me is an over hyped piece of wood, to others it's the Holy Grail. I don't care who or what race is playing with the cue, they could play with a beanstalk.

Southwest is like any other cue, after you play with it long enough you adjust to it. I bought two for cheap and dumped them a few months later, maybe I didn't give them enough time. I have hit with a few that were ok (Ebony) and a few that were so dead I would build a coffin for them, the owners loved them.

Southwest is the best if you believe it, I don't believe it.

You must be part of the cue in crowd. If you are not cuelitically correct when discussing cues you are part the problem and NO SOUP FOR YOU.

To each their own.

I would be interested in hearing from the "best" crowd why they are OK with seemingly a very large portion of the cues having warped butts. It seems so common that I see many sale posts that they actually mention it as an aside "oh it does have the slight butt warp". I have to say it would be a pretty big deal to me.

I have wondered about this as well. I do see this. Could someone explain this?

I have to argue with you on the poops, mine's the BEST. I don't have to wipe and mine don't STINK !!!

Too humid overseas mainly in Asia where many are. Wet hands get on the wrap with consistent play, which intern causes problems at the A joint.
I know mine are All Straight & All Original with only the South West Shop working on them for ANY REPAIR including tips.

Another problem is believe it or not, some people do not store their cues well. They should be wiped down after every use. Then put in a competent case, and stood up straight in a climate controlled room or safe!

Hope this sheds some light.
Happy New Year

I've only shot with a couple of South West Cues. They were nice cues, collectable cues, but they were no better than any other custom cue I've played with and I have played with several. I imagine that if there was a serious advantage given to a player by a particular custom cue maker, then all the pros would play with that cue even if they were not sponsored by the cuemaker. Shane plays with a CueTec, most people realize it's the player and not the cue. With that said, if you like the way a cue hits and the way it looks buy it.
