OK looking for opinions. I am considering purchasing the Montezuma from Jacoby. This cue was the 2009 ACA cue of the year. What do you guys think of this cue? Is it worth the asking price of $7500? Is it truly a Monster?

Thanks,

-Mike

Honestly, I don't see the value in this cue. Yes, it is a unique design, but most of the materials are commonly found in other cuemaker's cues. With a price that high, I would expect at least one of the following: name recognition (and resale value); large, long pieces of ivory; intricate scrimshaw work; rare/difficult-to-machine woods. If I were to reasonably value this cue, I would put it somewhere in the $3000-3500 range. But hey, that's just an opinion.

I don't claim to be an expert but I agree with you for the most part. I think its pretty close to a monster design but I'm not sure I would value it at 7.5. I tend to lean more on BWTadpole on price due to the reasons he listed.

Are you asking how it plays? Or just based on looks?

Honestly I don't think either can be judged by someone else. It's up to you if you like how it looks/hits enough to drop so much money. I wouldn't buy it based on someone else's subjective take. If you think it looks amazing then don't let us convince you otherwise, buy it and be happy to stare at it between shots =)

$7500? Is it truly a Monster?

Thanks,

Its a monster price, Jacoby's a good cues but you could find one hell of a nice cue for that price. Just for instance, post something like "HAVE $7500 TO SPEND ON CUSTOM CUE" in the wanted / for sale forum and see what offers you get....just a thought.
