Is the RENO OPEN dying?

Hey im in as a volunteer Jay and Mark............I can get coffee, yell real loud and fire folks!! Count me in for the help!! :)

Jay, I tried to express my concerns to Tony A. and it all fell on deaf ears. He even denied that the tournament ever was extended a day. I had to get Easy (forgot his last name) to confirm to him that it was and of course the reasoning (to keep the extra day) is that the hotel wants the players there and extra day for the room fee.

The fact is, that when you have 300 players, that's an extra 100 or so that will gamble at the tables and play the slots, and the extra players more than make up for lost room revenue. Amateurs with some money tend to gamble more as well. That just needs to be explained to hotel management.

The tournament was a great pro-am with a huge audience base, and now you scarcely have more than 50 people in the crowd.

You could do the announcing as well, Jay, and cut out the expense of Scott Smith, who I personally like and think is great, but possibly unnecessary.

By "fix it", what do you mean????

Trade secrets Josh. Let's just say there a lot of things that could be done to make the Sands tourney a major event again. One that would attract top players and crowds of spectators. It ain't dead yet, just resting.

The US Bar Table Championship is usually in late February and early March, and in 2009 it is from February 23rd to March 1st. The Sands does sponsor it as well and they are probably one of the larger sponsors of pool out there. Here are some links with some more information about the upcoming 2009 US Bar Table Championship.
