done accidentally, say, in the attempt to shoot a shot with mega-draw?

If touching the CB with the ferrule is a foul, then many miscues should be fouls. Sometimes people miscue and still make a legal shot...what is the proper ruling?

My take on the wording of any rules has had me always thinking that yes, a miscue is a foul, however I've never actually seen it called before. I have also always wondered why it's considered an illegal jump and a foul to scoop the cb up from the bottom, but to miscue while trying to draw isn't? Basically, in both situations, the exact same thing is happening. I too would like to hear from others.

With one-foul-bih rules, it's a foul if you don't hit the object ball or a rail after hitting the ball. That's about it, far as I know.

Very gray area here. If I was playing someone and they scooped the ball with the intention of jumping, yeah, I'd call it a foul. But, if they were obviously attempting a draw shot and miscued, the ball jumped but still hit the object ball, I wouldn't call foul on it. I honestly don't know what the official rules are though.

Depends on the rules you are playing under and maybe what game you are playing. In the BCA's new rules, miscues are mentioned:

1.32 Miscues
A miscue is not a foul if the shot is otherwise legal.

Other leagues and rulemaking bodies may have different rules. Ask someone that would know the rules in your specific circumstances.

Actually, both situations aren't exactly the same. Scooping the cue ball isn't necessarily a miscue. When I was a teenager, before I learned the real way to play, I was really good at jumping balls by shooting way below center.

I also think it may fall down to intentions. It's obvious if it's a miscue on a draw shot or attempting to jump over a ball. Interesting to hear what the official rule is though as something like this could lead to arguments.

I have this covered fairly well here:

See the "scoop" and "miscue" sections.

If judged "unintentional," a scoop jump is not a foul.

A scoop jump shot is usually, but not necessarily a foul. Even if unintentional, there is a rule that if you hit the cue ball with the ferrule, it is a foul, and this sometimes happens on an unintentional scoop jump.

I'd guess that if there was no interfering ball between the CB and the OB, then it would just be ruled a miscue since there would be no reason to jump there. If there was a ball between them, then it would probably be ruled a foul.

Just a guess, but seems logical to me.
