Is there a "smart" cue ball yet?

Anybody on here play golf? Over the last 20-30yrs at least a billion dollars has been spent on all sorts of gadgets that guarantee a better game. Guess what? Overall scores/handicaps have not improved one iota over the same time-span. NO excuse for hard work/patience. This thing, if it ever happens, will end up in the junkpile of goofy gizmos.
Ah. It's not exclusive! I promise that anything that I make will be a tool, not a quick fix. I'm an engineer and I only make tools. I guarantee you that you will need to put MORE work in than if you don't buy it in the first place. It will probably break your game for a short while. But I also guarantee you learn something valuable and have a stronger game if you work with it.

The sports market has been poisoned by so many garbage for profit ideas the public has lost patience and trust... Automatically labeled as a gimmick. I don't blame anyone for preconceptions, it's very saturated.

The best thing to do is let critics review and grow from the good reputation.

Quit bitchin' already and go build it. You like the idea, some of us think its not needed. Deal with it. There's this new miracle drug, 'GROWACET', might want to get some. Look, you're on a forum full of pool players and you need a tad thicker skin to hang here.
I am not bitching nor am I upset or offended. A bit disappointed maybe and definitely surprised though. People here accept the use of laminated shafts, fiberglass, rubber grips, carbon fiber, and other “gadgets” but the concept of a smart cue ball is somehow surreal/illogical. I actually find the dichotomy fascinating.

It’s obvious that I offended you somehow though or rubbed you the wrong way. I apologize for that.

I'm not mad, couldn't care less. My point/take is this: ALL the info/feedback one needs in pool is already there. Your eyes/hands/ears tell you all you need. To me this is an answer in search of a question.

you seem angry all the time, just saying.

I work in this business and have passion. I don't argue with you or other non-industry people: I TELL YOU and THEM HOW IT IS. You act like you work in the business and you do not. My opinions are based on my 9 years of working in this business, and most importantly: FOR MYSELF... I have formed business relationships with every major manufacturer/ distributor in the US, even after most of them said they would NEVER sell to me. What have you done for the industry? Regurgitate info you read on here or the few lil secrets you get from "your contact at brunswick" ?? You offer nothing. I thought you blocked me???!! :) I work very hard in this business and love my business and the best part is: SO MANY PEOPLE LIKE TO SPEND THEIR MONEY WITH US!! :)

Assuming the cue ball could work, it's much more portable than any camera based system.
I think to get any comprehensive data from this CB you would need the typical 3 receiver system somewhere on or above the table to triangulate it's position and calculate it's velocity. You would require some type of 'teach mode' so you could set up table cushion constraints, etc...

Quite honestly, if youre going through the excercise then you may as well do an entire ball set and not just the CB. That way you could collect the second half of the data (what is and what did happen to the OB), and the issue of similar size/weight to the CB sorts itself out.

I won't speak for the digicue guy, but some of the value of this system is supplementing the data you get from cue metrics. For instance, if the digicue says I have a left tip steer, am I still striking center ball? Or, if I shank a long shot but the digicue says my stroke was perfectly straight, the ball sensor might show off center contact. This would be useful in determining if I have an alignment/stance problem or a stroke problem. A real coach of course could provide this same feedback.

The QMD3 (THE original digital stroke trainer/analyzer in it's 3rd generation) will show you if you're steering your stroke and if you're hitting the cue ball where you intended. The free software has some sample shots you can check out to see all the information the tool provides - search for QMD3 in the Apple or Android app stores. There's a user guide available on the web site that goes into detail about using the QMD3 and explains all the available stroke metrics it provides.

The one line i hope i never live to hear in a pool-room: "I just can't wait to download my cueball and correlate its data with my new digital stroke trainer." How did all the champions ever get so good without this stuff? One thing it would be good for is getting suckers out of their chair. People see some cat with a digital cueball and a laptop they'll come running. Might have its uses after all. ;)

I'd love to see a minimum viable product? Do you have one? What about a patent?

There is a huge difference between an idea and a sellable product.

Anyway, competition is a good sign, as counter intuitive as it sounds. It means that there is market interest.

Song by Bob Dylan
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
Though I know that evening's empire has returned into sand
Vanished from my hand
Left me blindly here to stand, but still not sleeping
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet
I have no one to meet
And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to
Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you
Take me on a trip upon your magic swirling ship
My senses have been stripped
My hands can't feel to grip
My toes too numb to…

Is the light source fake?
The cast shadow suggests over head lighting and creates a bad light logic.
The same goes for the 5 ball. The lightest light is not vibrating against the darkest dark in the logical way.
What data format is the device broadcasting, proprietary or open source?

Also not explained is how does the chip get inside the ball. Am I just buying a chip or a billiard ball replica for display or a billiard ball for active competition with similar physics properties as the standard?

What you say has zero relevance.

Also, we could care less if people take all our ideas. In fact, we find it rather funny.

But, to be serious for a moment, the only thing that should have microchips implanted in them are people's brains. That way we can find out who the deviants are.

I've already made it. I started years ago, and learned a lot. If you need help with your prototype I can help.

It's more than just taking an idea, it is making it actually work.
