Is there any Market for Hightower cues? I can't find any used prices for any of them.

I am wanting to sell my Hightower cue, but I have not been able to figure out how much my cue is worth.

I can't find any Hightower cues for sale online.

I am guessing that maybe there just are not many Hightower cues out there.

Can anyone give me an idea on how much my cue is worth?

I am guessing that maybe it is basically worthless, if there is no market for them (if nobody is even the slightest bit interested in buying a used one, that is not custom made to their specs).

I received mine in on a trade, and I am afraid that I might be stuck with it, unless I were to give it away for next to nothing.

Thanks for any thoughts, on if you think there is any kind of market for Hightower cues.

Please refrain from any off topic troll replies (they will be reported to the admin).

Thanks in advance for nice (on topic) serious replies.

If you are not going to give a nice on topic reply, then I would be very grateful if you just moved on without replying at all.

Thank you.

Hello J

You said you got it on a trade. What did you trade for it and what was that item worth?

That might at least give some indication.

Kindly post pictures. That would help.

Is it a plain sneaky pete, four pointer, leather or linen wrap, ivory joint, etc?

The more accurate info provided, the more likely you are to get reasonable estimates.

But, I doubt it is worthless. I understand Chris has an very good reputation.

Regards

Yes, I understand, and you make a good point, about it probably not being worth any more then the amount of money I have into the cue (which is not very much money). It is a 6 point cue though (hard to see the points, and they are floating points). Is is a link to pictures of the cue (from the cue gallery).

I do not have much money invested in the cue, but I am just afraid that there is absolutely no market for these cues. I understand that the name is mostly famous for cue lathes and maybe other cue making parts. Thanks for your reply.

Its a nice looking cue. I had a TS that had similar wood and colors; it's one of the cues I should've kept.

No idea on value.

I guess you really don't love how it plays or you'd keep it.

Probably just put it on ebay and let the market determine the value.

I don't want to venture a guess and maybe insult the cue maker or give a high expectation.

Why dont you just call Chris and ask him what the cue is worth? He made the cue so he should be able to give you an accurate value.

It's worth more b/c you used it . :D

The market for heavily used cue is just not good .
Too many new sticks out there for cheap.

Yeah, eBay would be my best option for getting the most I possibly can out of the cue. My issue with the cue is that it is too light (17.85 oz), and it has a flat faced 5/16x14 joint, so it is impossible to just order a used shaft for the cue. I would need to either need to order one directly from Hightower (for $175 at the minimum), or have one custom made to the unique specs of the joint, by some other cue maker. Maybe I would like the cue if I could figure out how to add weight to it. I do not want to bother Chris anymore with questions. I have already bothered him too much I think, but he has always been very nice and answered all of my questions, as if I were a customer of his. His replies come back very quick too. Reminds me of the type of customer service that McDermott gives (which is excellent, and very professional).

I can't just ask Chris how much the cue is worth as a used cue (his opinion about the value of it would be biased). I did shower ask him how much the cue originally cost when it was new (back in 2013, when his son made it), and the original cost was around $699 (he told me in an email). He also told me that a similar cue would cost $799 to $899 if it were to be custom ordered today. I just get the feeling that maybe there is no market for his cues . Maybe there is just a good market for his lathes. I know that he is a very good cue maker though. I have looked through the archives of cues he has made on his website, and he has made some very high end cues, that look very nice I think.

I had a super nice TS cue too (back in 2008) that I really regret selling. What I regret even more is that I never even played with the cue, lol. I paid so much money for it, that I was afraid to take it to the pool hall. It was just too high end for me.

I think the problem with this Hightower cue is that the only people that know who Hightower is are people that are also in the cue making or cue repair business, and if that is true, then that means there really is no market for his cues on the used market.

If you can't determine a price make one. Maybe sell or trade as a package.

cue

Usually when you don't see a particular maker's cues, it's because people are keeping them due to liking them. Chris makes a good cue. I know he had a big market in Asia for a while. They couldn't get enough of them.

I feel like my used cues will normally bring about 2/3rd of current new price in this area. But of the last two of my used cues that sold around Atlanta that I was contacted about, besides my jump break cues, one brought almost new price and the other brought more than I was paid for it. I think your cue was built in 2010, but I am not positive. It was made right before the Gem City Classic that my son made a good run in, what ever year that was. Any competent cue repairman can put a weight bolt in it.

Thanks a lot for your reply Chris. I think maybe I would really love it if I could get a few ounces added to the weight of the butt (which is only 13.85 oz), and a new softer tip installed. The tip on it (that I think might be a LePro) seems really hard. Thanks again for all of your time you gave me in your email replies.

By the way, I see that the year of the Gem City Open was held in July of 2012.

Your son must be a great player (I imagine) if he was able to get pretty far into that tournament. I see that he is a very good cue maker too.

You make a great point. For example, I always loved Durbin cues (one of the 1st cues I ever had as a kid was a Durbin), and they are very rarely seen available for sale online (probably because the players hold on to them, and never want to sell them). Thanks for your reply.
