I totally agree with this....some gems get lost.

I agree. The other thread on collecting quality threads would help with getting people to add to good threads rather than start a new one.

Actually, I believe just the opposite.
I think the dilution of the Main Forum is a pox on the expansion of AZ Billiards.
There are Filters in place for people to use if they are so inclined.
However, it seems that every month a new sub-forum is added. Most VIEWERS/LURKERS don't get past the Main Forum imo, although I could be wrong. Even for myself, I seldom drop off to the sub-forums.
I have always been able to quickly scan through several pages of threads in the Main Forum and choose which ones I am interested in reading.
The addition of the sub-forums is a form of segregation and it diminishes the Main Forum imo, which I believe to be the most valuable part of AZ Billiards as far as discussion is concerned.
If you are interested in particular topics, you can easily use the SEARCH feature and find almost any thread or post about that particular subject.
In my opinion is mult-faceted threads of different subject matters IN THE MAIN FORUM was one of the things that I most liked about AZ Billiards.
My time is limited for visiting AZ Billiards and I find visiting the different sub-forums to be time-consuming so I don't visit them very often.
On the other hand, in the old days, if a subject was a hot topic on the Main Forum, you could easily see that it was a popular one, by either the fact that it had a large number of posts and/or that it stayed on the first page for a long period of time.
I have never found searching the Main Forum to be a problem OR IGNORING particular threads/posts or particular posters.
I like the majority of the threads to be in the Main Forum but that's just me. I probably miss a lot of good threads in the sub-forum because I don't regularly visit them, but that's just me.
Just my opinion.

its more clogged with eleven stickys up there that appear on every page. i dont mind them on the opening page of the forum but every page i have to scroll down a long way to get to posts. but who want 11 stickys up there.
IMHO the worst thing you can do is create numerous sub-forums. No one in their right mind is going to jump from sub-forum to sub-forum just to see all the posts that are pool-related, i.e. would have been in a Main Forum. That takes way too much effort. (as evidence, notice all the dead sub-forums for 14.1, Snooker, Carom, etc., while there are plenty of threads about those in the Main Forum; if they weren't in the Main Forum I'd never see them...I enjoy seeing them, but I'm not going to go out of my way to view them(.
It's not like we have to read every thread just to get to the next one. Scan to see the ones of interest to you.
Besides, everyone is going to have their own definition of "Main" material.
Regarding sub-threads: I prefer them. If an "official" tournament thread runs about 10 pages, imagine what it would be if other interesting sub-threads were require to be in the official thread...it would be 50 pages long. I prefer separate threads for "My pictures at the US Open", "My SBE Experience", "Want to share a ride to Turning Stone?", and so on.
im also referring to the "sub-threads" that have no potential in developing into a healthy discussion. i'll give an example. 2 years ago there was a U.S. Open thread that had more than 10 pages. during the time that the tournament was in progress, there were threads like "(this player's) cue at the US Open" or "US Open streaming question" or "US Open payouts". same thing happened during last year's open as well as the W9B.
i mean, cant people just ask it on the "official" thread instead of creating a new one?
Can't blame you if you prefer quantity over quality traffic. MuahahahaTo the OP - Incase u haven't noticed traffic on AZ has been WAY DOWN! So any traffic is good traffic. If u love AZ the way we do STFU! seriously
I have a theory about why there are so many sub-forums and it is this:
A few people attempted to exert power and control over AZ Billiards by complaining that certain subject matter belonged in its own sub-forum.
Essentially, they didn't like reading about particular subjects because they were emotionally and negatively tied to the subject matter but looked like jerks when they posted in those threads.
As time went on, the management of AZB got tired of the whining babies demanding that sub-forums be implemented for various subject matter. Others seeing how easy it was to control what was said and posted in the Main Forum joined in the sport of control of the Main Forum and they pretty much succeeded. Now there are so many sub-forums that you would need a dozen clones to scan through them with you to keep up.
Before it was easy to see the threads in the Main Foru that you wanted to post in. Now many of those threads have been sent off to never-never-land never to be seen again by those who frequent the Main Forum (which is the majority of the posters on AZB).
Oh well, at least the moderators finally muzzled some of the haters.
Who knows, maybe the management will see fit to change some of the sub-forums back to the Main Forum?

If a topic is a bad topic it will run its course off the main page if it holds its because it's getting responses , the forum is the teacher ,,,
