Is this slop?

IMHO slop is pocketing a ball that you had no intention of pocketing.

There is no slop in Call Shot games, by definition. You called the ball and the pocket...it went in.

Lucky? Probably. (but I feel lucky every time I pocket a ball)

Slop? No.

If there is no calculation involved---it is slop. If there is any calculation involved such as if I try to hit it and it goes in, it is an educated guess, albeit a poor guess. But it is not slop.

But I should stand reprimanded --- slop is not a word related to pool except by the verbally inept.

Slop equals out over time. People blaming slop for a loss are overlooking some shortcomings in their own game.

Do you gamble? If you do,then there are a certain group people you need to play with this
"special" gift that will have you eating those words and doing a complete 180 with that statement.

Is this slop?

Your opponent misses the 5 and this is your leave. You call the 8 ball in a particular pocket and it goes in. Is this slop?

If you call a number and place a bet on a roulette wheel and it comes in, are you lucky? After all, it is your intention. You called it.

This is not a good comparison. If you're playing call the 8 ball and the 8 ball is called and subsequently made in the called pocket it's not slop. People will try to find a way to argue about anything. People will make excuses when they lose. The Fox called the grapes sour... People and Foxes don't like to admit they are the reason they lost.

If it goes in the pocket the player called what difference if it's "slop" it still counts move on

I think it takes far more skill than luck to hit the ball. Once the ball is hit, it requires far, far more luck to pocket the ball. I think that this is, for the most part, a luck (slop) shot.[/SIZE][/B]

On a pool table, I do not believe in luck where a shot is concerned. There are some circumstances that arise where I can not account for all variables and so I just poke and pray. Call that good or bad luck, fine.

A player at the table that has knowledge of a shot and actually has something of a stroke or has heard the rumor that stroke does exist, can strike a ball and make it go in some semblance of an intended direction. There is no luck involved there. I know, I know "but it's so haaaaaard Uncle Lesh!"

Even hard shots can be made. There there.... it will all be fine.
Pardon my snark

So, if I'm 40% on a bank, it's slop or luck if I make it? Not buying it. When Efren z-kicked his famous 8, that was slop? Well, heck, I guess baseball players are just lucky to get a hit. Sounds like somebody lost the above rack on a great shot.

Perfect analogy. A good hitter in baseball fails 7 out of 10 times.

Works for me. Case closed.

I see two exceptions to this occur fairly regularly with bangers. Miss the corner pocket slightly to the end rail side and it zings around 4 rails and goes in. Slop. Miss the corner pocket and it goes off the tit across the table and comes back in the first hole. Slop.

I have seen these two things happen more times than I can recall.

To me if the ball hits the rail before it goes in I call it "slop".

An unintentional pocketing of a ball... Also "slop"

Do these shots count in call pocket games? "Yes"

Are u mad that the shot had a 1 in 6 chance? "**** yes!"
